ATHENS, GA - “2 takeaways from the Georgia/Florida game so far. Georgia’s Oline playing its best game of the season. Georgia’s pass rush has come ALIVE. Best game of the season.”
That’s what three-time All American and UGA Football legend David Pollack tweeted during Georgia’s dominant 43-20 win over the Florida Gators this past weekend.
And he’s right.
Graham Mertz, who was sacked 19 times before facing Georgia’s defense, was sacked four more times in Jacksonville. Glenn Schumann’s defense won the battle in the trenches, stopped the run, and put Mertz in tough positions throughout the ballgame.
The pass-rush certainly stepped their game up. Jalon Walker looked like a man on a mission. His overall strength is easy to notice, but his ability to bend and get around the edge was really impressive. He’s got the tools to be a possible first-round pick one day, and he flashed those tools on Saturday.
Welcome back, Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins. The big interior lineman made a big play on the football early in the game, creating a turnover in Florida’s own end of the field.

Mykel Williams continues to cause havoc plays. The young sophomore showed his long frame, natural athleticism, and outsanding pass-rush against the Gators.
True freshman Damon Wilson teamed up with Williams for one of Georgia’s four sacks. He’s been coming along more and more, and he’s showing his natural pass-rushing ability. He’s got a bright future in Athens, and if he continues to develop correctly at this pace, he’ll start playing more and more over time.
The talent is there. Georgia’s never had a problem getting too, and pressuring the quarterback. But now it’s go-time. Missouri quarterback Brady Cook has been sacked just 13 times this year through eight games. He gets the ball out quickly, and he’s mobile enough to scramble away and extend plays with his feet.
This is going to be a tough test for Georgia. This will likely be the best offense they’ve seen all season.
Can Georgia’s pass-rush continue to improve? Will some of the young, talented defenders continue to grow?
We know the Sanford Stadium crowd will be a factor on Saturday, but if Georgia’s defense continues to attack the quarterback the way they did against Florida, the Tiger offense could be in for a long, long day this upcoming Saturday.
