ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have thier new offensive coordinator - maybe you have heard of him.
Former Georgia quarterback and offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is returning to his role as coordinator for the Bulldogs’ 2023 season. The move is not surprising. Bobo was the offensive coordinator under Mark Richt from 2007 until he left for the head job at Colorado State after the 2014 season.
“I am excited to name Mike Bobo our next Offensive Coordinator,” Kirby said in statement. “Mike has a decade of experience as a successful SEC play-caller and over 20 years spent at UGA, both as a player and coach. Mike was an excellent addition to our staff last year as an analyst, and we are looking forward to his expanded leadership on the offensive side of the ball.”
Bobo returned to Athens last winter to serve on the team’s support staff.
Bobo played quarterback for the Bulldogs from 1993-1997 and coached QBs at Georgia from 2001-2006. He was then promoted to offensive coordinator and held that position under former head coach Mark Richt from 2007-2014.

In his time at Georgia, Bobo used gifted quarterbacks to score record numbers of points. Matthew Stafford started under Bobo from 2006 until 2008. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. Stafford won Super Bowl LVI with the Rams. Aaron Murray became the SEC’s all-time leading passer (13,166 career yards) under Bobo.
The Bulldogs were the No. 8 scoring team in the nation in Bobo’s final season at UGA in 2014.
