ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs received some bad news today as wide receiver AD Mitchell has entered in the NCAA transfer portal.
The former four-star and Texas native has been excellent for the Bulldogs through his first two season in Athens - making some of the biggest catches in school history. Mitchell is a two-time national champion and caught a touchdown pass in each of Georgia’s four playoff games over the last two seasons.
Multiple outlets reported Mitchell was in the portal, but Jake Rowe of DawgsHQ was the first to report the news. Wednesday is the final day for players to enter the portal before late spring.
The twitchy 6-foot-4, 190-pounder missed most of the 2022 season due to an early season injury, but ended the season on a strong note in the Playoffs.
As a freshman in 2021, Mitchell made an immediate impact, catching 29 passes for 426 yards and four touchdowns. Of course, his biggest touchdown came on a long 40-yard bomb that gave Georgia a 4th quarter lead over Alabama in the 2022 CFP National Championship game. No matter where Mitchell plays football in 2023, he’ll always be remembered for that massive touchdown grab.

Mitchell joins receiver Dominick Blaylock, who also entered his name into the transfer portal this week. However, it’s not all bad news for Bryan McClendon’s group. The Bulldogs have been extremely active in the transfer portal at wide receiver, adding playmakers RaRa Thomas from Mississippi State and Dominick Lovett tfrom Missouri to the team for the 2023 season. They both have plenty of experience and enough talent to make an early impact for the Bulldogs next fall.
Georgia still has Ladd McConkey returning for the 2023 season. He was the leading receiver last year for the national champions and will be a depeendable option once again in his fourth year.
Receivers Dillon Bell, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, Jackson Meeks, De’Nylon Morrissetts, and Cole Speer all plan to return for the 2023 season as well. The Bulldogs are also bringing in somee talented incoming freshman including Tyler Williams, Yazeed Haynes and Anthony Evans.
