ATHENS - No team in college football has had a better day than the Georgia Bulldogs today.
Just hours after landing a commitment from playmaking wide receiver RaRa Thomas, Kirby Smart and Bryan McClendon land their second receiver of the day out of the portal. This time, it’s former Missouri Tiger, Dominic Lovett.
A former 4-star prospect in the 2021 class, Lovett is a reliable route-runner with good burst and dependable hands. A consistent option all season in the passing game, Lovett caught 56 passes for 846 yards and three touchdowns.
The Georgia Bulldogs WIN the 2021 NATIONAL TITLE!
His 846 receiving yards rank 4th best in the SEC and his 56 receptions rank 5th in the best conference in college football. His best game of the season came against South Carolina where he caught 10 passes for 148 yards in Missouri’s big 23-10 win over thee Gamecocks.
Against the Bulldogs, Lovett caught six passes for 84 yards.
He was one of the more productive wide receivers in the conference last year, and like Thomas, he’ll bring Georgia more consistency, experience, and big-play ability. He may not have found the end-zone a ton this fall, but he’s a versatile player that can be used in a lot of different ways. He caught a lot of passes last year and he’s hoping to do it again in Athens next year.
Just a sophomore, AD Mitchell will likely be Georgia’s No. 1 receiver heading into next year, and Georgia’s most productive receiver this year, red-shirt sophomore Ladd McConkey, will likely be back next year as well.
Dominick Blaylock can come back. So could junior Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.
With Thomas and now Lovett on board, this makes things difficult for guys like Jackson Meeks, De’Nylon Morrissette, and Arian Smith. Even though he’s played a good bit this year as a freshman, you might have to throw Dillon Bell in that group as well.
Rara Thomas and Dominic Lovett are coming to Athens to play. They’re legitimate playmakers right now.
Georgia’s never had the most talented wide receiver room in the conference that I can think of. The 2023 season could tell a different story.
