ATHENS - The regular season is over, and the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs are coming off a dominant SEC Championship victory over LSU.

Now, the Bulldogs have a semi-final game against Ohio State coming on December 31st.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart went on the CFP Rankings Show on Sunday to talk about their matchup against No. 4 Ohio State, and that’s when he made some inaccurate comments about the Buckeyes.

He called them a “very physical team”.

I’m not a college football head coach yet, but I know enough to call out Kirby Smart for his total coach-speak answer.

The Buckeyes are NOT a physical football team. They have plenty of talent on the roster, but let’s not call them a “physical” football team. Kirby Smart knows that, but he’s obviously not going to say that on national television.

Defensively, the Buckeyes gave up 263 passing yards and three touchdowns to an above-average quarterback in Michigan’s J.J McCarthy. They also gave up 252 yards on the ground to the Wolverines, who beat them down physically as the game went on. Michigan also did that without their top player and Heisman-hopeful running back, Blake Corum.

Physical football teams don’t give up 530 total yards and over 250 yards on the ground.

Against Maryland, The Buckeye defense gave up 293 yards and two scores to Taulia Tagovailoa. They also let him go 26/36 through the air. The Buckeyes won the game, but it took all four quarters to get the job done.

The Georgia Bulldogs are the most physically dominant football team in the country. That’s a fact. Stetson Bennett has been lights out in Mercedes-Benz this year, and seeing what the last two quarterbacks have done against Ohio State, Bennett should have no problem leading the offense up and down the field.

Again, everyone knows the Buckeyes are one of the most talented teams in America. They have an extremely talented quarterback and plenty of weapons on offense.

But they’re not tough. They sure don’t look like a physical team, so I’m not sure what Smart was talking about on Sunday.

He can use all the coach speak he wants, but I’ll speak the truth.

Ohio State got run out of their own building against Michigan. They flat-out gave up in the 4th quarter. They waved the white-flag. AT HOME. They were bullied by Michigan and everyone saw it.

They haven’t looked like a championship-caliber team since October, and they might get bullied again by a Georgia offense that was clicking on all cylinders against LSU.

Talent matters, but toughness and physicality matter more. Games are still won in the trenches, and that’s where the Bulldogs have a MAJOR advantage over Ohio State later this month.
