College Football Expert: "I Think Georgia Is Better Than Last Year’s Team”

ATHENS - After Georgia’s beatdown of Oregon over the weekend, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs put the college football world on notice.
After winning the national championship last season, Georgia’s big victory over Oregon gave talking heads around the country a lot to talk about this week.
One CBS college football expert, Tom Fornelli, was a guest on the popular “Pardon My Take” podcast and had a lot to say about the 2022 Bulldogs.
“I think Georgia is better than last year’s team”, Fornelli said on Pardon My Take. “The defense last year was one of the best we’ve ever seen at the college level. They lost a bunch of players to the NFL but they still have guys like Jalen Carter, and the way they’ve recruited, you knew the defense was still going to be good. You saw Malaki Starks, a 5-star freshman make that one-handed INT and you’re quickly reminded ‘holy sh***’, this defense is still nuts. It doesn’t matter how many guys they lose, they reload.”
“The difference to me was the offense”, Fornelli added. “They had Jermaine Burton transfer, George Pickens is now with the Steelers and you’re wondering where they were going to be explosive on offense. You lose James Cook and Zamir White. Will they still be explosive and be able to compete offensively with the Alabama’s and Ohio State’s? When you look at Oregon defensively, they have 5-star players on that defense, and Georgia completely wiped them from the face of the Earth and did every single thing they wanted too. I came into this season thinking Alabama and Ohio State, one of them are going to win the national title. Georgia will probably get into the playoff again, but they just don’t have the offensive firepower to compete with Alabama and Ohio State. After what I saw Saturday, I’d say Georgia is right up there with those two. I think it’s a three-way race.”
PFT Commenter, a co-host of Pardon My Take, chimed in with his thoughts on Darnell Washington.
“Darnell Washington should be illegal”, Commenter said. “I was shocked when I saw him on the football field for the first time. It should be illegal to possess one of those. He’s what? 6’8? 270?”
Dan Katz, also known as “Big Cat” and one of the best personalities in sports media right now, also gave his quick thoughts on the Bulldogs.
“Georgia won the national title, came out and beat a top 11 team”, Katz said. “Wiped them out. They should be No. 1.”
Georgia’s win was as impressive as it gets.
Are they better this year than last year? We might not know that answer until they play in Atlanta, likely against Alabama once again.
What we do know is that this Georgia team is for real. They are a true contender for the 2022 national championship, and they’ll likely have to get past the Tide to get there.
