ATHENS - Former Cincinnati Bengals OL and UGA stalwart Clint Boling said Monday that he was pleased with the return of Stacy Searles to the Dawgs’ program.
“He is going to be good for the program,” Boling said. “I think it is going to be a good change.”
The Bulldogs are coming off their first national title since 1980. Former offensive line coach Matt Luke stepped away from coaching a week ago, which led to the opening filled by Searles.
“They are going to need some more dry-erase boards,” the eight-year NFL vet said of his former position coach - referencing the motivational tactics Searles used in the past. “I don’t know if he’s still using those. There’s new technology out. I don’t know if he’s got an iPad. Hopefully he’s not breaking iPads. We would have to go into games with a couple of dry-erase boards.”
Boling said Searles got him ready for a future in the NFL by demanding consistent work each day in practice. Searles was the offensive line coach at Georgia from 2007-2010. He comes to Georgia from North Carolina, where he just finished up his third year in Chapel Hill.
“When I first met him I had not signed, so everything was great - that’s everyone’s experience getting recruited,” Boing said. “Once we got into school you quickly realized that he was all business. He was very, very intense. He wants what’s best for you, and the team. He is going to push and motivate guys.”
