ATHENS - Georgia Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart has hired North Carolina offensive line coach Stacy Searels accoring to numerous reports.
The hire comes with only a few weeks before spring football starts. The Bulldogs are coming off their first national title in four decades. Searels will be tasked with coaching one of the top offensive lines in the country coming into 2022.
It will be Searels' second stint with the program. He was hired as offensive line coach for the Bulldogs starting with the 2007 season. That year he was tasked with developing a line that started two true freshmen. During his four seasons in Athens, the Dawgs ranked in the Top 25 in the nation in fewest sacks allowed three times.
This will be Searels third time as an assistant in the SEC. He was LSU's offensive line coach under Nick Saban during the Tigers' national title in 2003. After his time in Athens, Searels left for Texas. Then he went to Virginia Tech, Miami and North Carolina. Searels worked with Kirby Smart and Will Muschamp at LSU. Searels was an All-American offensive lineman at Auburn before he started his coaching career.
One of the most important the spots the Bulldogs will have to figure out is which offensive lineman will play left tackle. The Dawgs have no shortage of options at the spot.
