The players will be back in a routine doing individual workouts and informal team activities. I look forward to more reports on the players in the near future. I think the coaches were pleased with the team-building they got to do in Italy. I don't think they were going to learn much about the team against such inferior competition. It's an interesting mix. I have to see them on the court before forming any accurate opinions. I am told the coaches have really liked what they have seen from Blue Cain.

We are bigger, stronger, more experienced, deeper in the frontcourt (though this may be offset by lack of depth in the backcourt - they will definitely need to crosstrain) and better defensively I think.

Explain what you mean by Lack of depth in the backcourt?

Pretty simple. We only have 4 guards on the roster that are scholarship players, and 2 of them are true freshmen. Any kind of injuries in the backcourt, as well as simple fatigue, could hamper the team, particularly if we want to play at any kind of tempo. Now, if some of the wings can give us spot minutes at guard, it may not hurt too bad, but I'm not big on wings trying to handle the ball, particularly against a press. IMHO we are 1 guard short, at the very least. 5 or 6 guard would be optimal. Plus, we are really banking on these 4 being good enough shooters to keep us in games. If 1 or 2 don't provide the perimeter punch we need, it could hurt.

Their is more than 4 guards on the roster:

We may have more than 4 listed, but that is illusory and mistaken. Jabri, Melendez and Mari aren't guards; they're wings. Small forwards in old basketball vernacular. You don't want to see them handle the ball against pressure. They may walk the ball up the floor on occasion, but that's about it. They may give a handful of minutes of spot duty at SG, but they aren't guards. Sunahara is definitely not a guard; he's a power forward. It's ridiculous to list him as a guard. None of these guys are ballhandlers, regardless of how they are listed on a roster. Jennings and Klatsky are walk-ons.

We have Cain and Demary as freshmen guards, and Hill and Thomasson are grads. That's it. If we have injuries among these 4, it will be very detrimental to the team.

Hill is a pure PG. Demary is a combo guard that we believe can play PG. He is the guy I think we play as our 2nd PG, at least until he proves he can't play it. I have heard that we have given Thomasson some time at PG, but he's the only proven scorer we have at guard, so that would limit the usefulness of playing him at PG. Cain can probably play a bit of PG, too, but that's just a guess on my part. His film seemed to show that he could handle the ball pretty well.

I'm not sure what or who you are talking to but after watching Cain and Demary Jr films, IMOP Cain is a pure 2 guard and Demary Jr is definitely a PG. He's been running the point for 3 years and know where have I've seen on film where he's a combo guard. Cain can play some Pg, but I think he's more successful at the 2. Cain did run some point at IMG, but I like him best off the ball because of his skill set.

I don't think you calling Cain a pure SG is much different than what I said. I said he could play some PG. I never said it would be his primary or best position. I know we want to play Demary at PG, but some have called him a combo. It's important that he be able to handle PG, but it remains to be seen. I want to see both in person before I say definitively. WE HAVE 4 GUARDS. They will have to overlap some. I do not know why this is so hard to understand.

It's not hard to understand, you are making assumption and I have watched both kids paly in depth. Those that call Demary Jr a combo are lazy in there writing. Just like your assumption. You haven't seen those guys in person or play several games. Cain is definitely a more of a shooting guard and doesn't look comfortable handling the ball, but he will. Demary Jr on the other hand looks more pure at the PG position and is much bigger than many will see.

But all will remain to be seen and this team will be much better than those that predict!!

No, what I have said is not hard to understand. That's why I don't see why you can't seem to get it. I made assumptions? I think you need to go back and work on reading comprehension. I never said Cain wasn't a SG; I said that he could play PG if necessary. That's not the optimum though. But we only have 4 guards. I said we were going to play Demary at PG, though some experts saw him as more of a combo. That is absolutely true. Where are the "assumption"? Whoopee! You've watched them play "in depth" (whatever that means to you).... Big deal. How much actual coaching and player evaluation have you done? I've done quite a bit, and I never make conclusions about players until I lay my own eyes on them in person. Why would I trust the opinion of some anonymous internet poster who has demonstrated no basketball acumen? At least I know the difference between "their" and "there". I can also spell "play", and I know when words should be plural.

Funny? Gee, and I wasn't even trying. Mad? Why would I be "mad" at some anonymous poster on a website who pretty clearly doesn't know much? If everyone has an opinion, then what are you, in your own words, "questioning" me about? I don't think my supposed "insults" correlate in any way to the supposed "depth" of my thinking. I merely pointed out basic spelling and grammar errors. Does that point out the lack of "depth" in your thinking? Perhaps. And concentrate on your own life; mine is just fine....

People can see you for what you are. Trying to belittle and anonymous person because of basic grammar and spelling error is poor taste for someone whose been posting for as long as you have. But enjoy your fine life!! BTw Demary Jr is a PG no matter where you got your information from and Blue is A SHOOTING guard!!!!

And people can see you for what you are, as well. You still think we have 7 or 8 guards on this team.... Such perception; such insight.... You really have a reading comprehension problem, kid. I'm so sorry you are disappointed. That's just terrible. Not only can't you spell or use correct grammar, but you don't seem to be able to read very well either. I stand by my comment.

"want"? "comperhen"? Spell much? "enjoy what little life you may have"? Now, you're an actuary? You really need to work on your education, reading comprehension and basketball acumen. Save your blessings; you clearly need them and don't have any to spare. Typical passive aggressive, two-faced BS....

Agree. The team should be much much better this year.
