in the portal. Good news. More to come....

And Wright has joined them. I think he has potential, but he would have a lot of work to do.

Before this culling is over, I suspect we might have 7-9 spots to fill for next season.

Wright, Taylor and Oquendo in the portal as well. Oquendo is the only one that remotely bothers me, but he is far from irreplaceable. He's a flashy dunker that makes people forget the TOs and the poor defense and mediocre shooting. I would have rather had him back because he is a threat, but his loss is not insurmountable.

Etter too.

McMillan and Etter enter the portal. McMillan is no loss at all and has no business in the SEC. Jaxson should be the 7th or 8th man coming off the bench. I like his hustle, and he's a good kid, but he's no starter in the SEC. I would like to have him back, but if he wants to leave, that's up to him.

It is likely the purge that all parties need but it is going to be hard to start completely over. Who is confirmed as a returnee? JAR and who else? Tentatively Ingram, Baumann, and Bridges? I guess that is something. Need a bunch of guys at this point.

Nobody is "confirmed" as a returnee that I understand. Honestly, the majority of that roster needed to transfer. And it isn't as hard as it used to be to start over. Transfers would be a good stop-gap until recruiting of HS players can catch up. Crean made a mistake his second year by bringing in, IIRC, 7 freshmen and expecting them to be ready to play at our level. Several were good players, but they had no clue what it takes to play major college ball. And we struggled in a year where we had the #1 draft pick. Even Edwards wasn't completely ready to play. Our defense was terrible. There is such a thing as being too young. Transfers will help us bring in players who already know what it takes to compete at a high level and who are physically and mentally more developed and ready to help us succeed.

Yep, it was very obvious, well before the season started, that roster we assembled last year is not a P5 talent level roster.

I'm firmly in Etter's corner, he deserves a scholarship, closest thing to a DGD that we have. I agree he should be coming off the bench but he's been done wrong by not being on scholly already.

If Etter is going to be on the team, then he deserves a scholarship. We don't really know what White told him about what role he envisions for him going forward. White doesn't have the same emotional attachment to even popular players that we as fans might. This is White's team now; it's his roster; he has to do what he thinks is best.

If Etter wants to be a Dawg he should have a spot.
The transfer makes more sense if he has his degree already.
Anybody know if he's graduated/graduating?

Not everyone who wants to be a Dawg gets their wish, particularly when there's a coaching change.

Bauman hit the portal today. Down to three possible returnees. Nine scholarships to give assuming last three (JAR, Ingram, Bridges) return and Hill sticks.

I saw that Baumann hit the portal. I like Baumann; he played out of position all year. Can you imagine being a 6'4 or 5" SG and being asked to play PF? He's a decent spot-up shooter and has great form, but he is not someone that just screams out that you gotta keep. He's better than most of the guys who have entered the portal from our roster, but that's not saying a lot.

I agree. We are arguably down to the group that you can make the most argument for keeping. It would be nice to get Oquendo back but that ship has likely sailed.

Sounds like we have got a good chance at the Bradley guy. Since the HS class is nearly picked over, it would be nice if we could get a foreign guy or two to supplement portal guys. Just need to lock down several starting caliber guys and build piece by piece.

IIRC White has gotten guys from overseas before. There should still be a few HS kids out there, particularly with the coaching changes that have taken place, I hope.

Is Baumann entering the portal as a graduate transfer? I thought he couldn't enter again otherwise.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect that he is. He's certainly been in school long enough.
