Well, the hits just keep on coming. Horne is out for the year with a torn ACL. I know he is our most experienced returning player and was the best percentage 3 pt shooter on the team last year, but honestly, I'm not all that broken up about it. I hate it for the kid, of course, but Horne is a limited player IMHO and was better suited to coming off the bench than starting. He's not really tall enough or athletic enough to play in the post in the SEC. It hurts our depth, but I think it's overcomable.

On a brighter note, we picked up a commitment from 6'7", 205 lb G/F JT Elder from a prep school in AZ. Apparently, Elder had signed with Portland St out of HS last year, but got a DUI that same night, only to be dropped by the school. He since went to prep school in AZ, grew 2 inches, put on about 20 lbs, played pg for them, averaged 18 ppg, 13 rpg and 3 apg. He had been a 2 star out of HS but had a great prep season and a good spring, which brought him to our attention. Apparently, Coach Brian Fish knows his prep school coach and has coached one of his players before. The kid has had a really tough life, lost both his parents when he was younger in Chicago, got into foster care, was adopted by a family in AZ. He has stayed sober since the DUI and worked on correcting that mistake. I haven't found any recent film on him though. We beat out some good programs for him - TCU, DePaul and Washington, among others. Wish him luck....

Ouch.

Sorry for Horne. I'm sure he's incredibly disappointed.
