I glanced at the GA St website yesterday. They have 2 assistants we might be interested in. Cliff Warren, a long-time assistant in the SE who has been at Tech and Siena, as well as HC at Jacksonville for 8-9 years and at Mt. St. Mary's under Jim Phelan, who really knows the state, and Jarvis Hayes. I know Crean tried to get Jarvis involved in the program when he first got here, but that may have cooled off after brother Jonas left for Xavier. Of course, knowing that Jarvis and Jonas talk constantly, I'm not sure Jarvis would take the job. LOL Sharman White is HC at Pace Academy. He was an assistant at Ga St. for a couple of years a few years ago.

It'll be someone desperate for a job or someone who has never made anywhere close to the kind of money SEC Assts make these days.

Philip Pearson will probably be at Foley Field this evening watching his son pitch Totally joking... Crean's not calling and if he did I doubt PP would answer. UAB w/ Kennedy is probably the better place to be currently.

His son Will is having a pretty good freshman year pitching for the Diamond Dawgs.

How 'bout the proverbial coach-in-waiting.

Believe me I'd thought of that already....
I don't think you could get him to come at damn near any price. He'll wait patiently. It'd sure solidify his chances if Xavier were a little better. They haven't been very good the last three seasons.

I see Jonas was given the Assoc Head Coach moniker
recently. They're 51-37 (23-27 Big East). No twenty win seasons, no above .500 in conference records. They'll be feeling some pressure this year to get in the tourney.

They are expecting big things at Xavier next year. And I don't think it is reasonable to place the blame for them falling short in the last couple of years on an assistant coach. He doesn't lead the program. It's not his system they run. I am convinced Jonas would do well at UGA. And don't anybody give me the old "he's never been a HC" line. Neither has Hubert Davis at UNC. Neither had Howard at Michigan before he got that job. Neither had Kirby before he got our job. Neither had Richt before he got our job. Evidence abounds that prior HC experience is not necessary for success.

Hubert Davis, Juwan Howard, Kirby Smart.... Jonas Hayes??
I can't even find a Wiki Page for Jonas Hayes.
But, I'll damn sure take him over Crean 8 days a week. There'll be zero competition for him so it'll be an easy and relatively cheap hire.

Glad to hear big things are expected this year at Xavier, that would help Jonas' relatively weak resume. First real job, as Jonas says the first time in his life he made more than $30k, was coaching with Mark Fox for 5 years at Georgia. Then he's been with Travis Steele for 3 below par seasons at Xavier. If we're not looking through red & black glasses with the name "Jonas Hayes" at the top, that candidate would never get a second look. But again, if I got news we fired Crean and hired Jonas I'd be popping the champagne!!

I would try to judge a coach not by whether they have a Wikipedia page but by how their teams play. We can't really know what a Jonas Hayes' team would be like until he actually gets the chance to lead a program. Simply because Hubert Davis has a Wiki page is no guarantee that he will be successful at UNC, but I bet he will because he has surrounded himself with guys who have been successful and know what it takes. I would also bet Jonas would do the same.
