Wait, is it Antman?
(Under current rules, Dominique would have been 1 and done too)

Which player would you choose first if you ran an NBA team?

Very different players.

'Nique
However, there have been some good UGA basketball players - may not have has great NBA careers - but very good in college.
Ant-Man is not the 2nd best ever...maybe in talent, but not play overall.

Jarvis Hayes, Litterial Green, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Alex Kessler are names that woud be in that conversation.

Of course, if includinf women, Teresa Edwards doesnt take a back seat to anyone.

Nique. Top 50 of all time = automatic over a college freshman.

Vern Fleming is in the discussion for #2 IMO as well. No way we make the Final Four without him.

Dominique and Edwards are the most talented and impressive. Something can be said about guys like Rashad Wright and Sundiata Gaines though. Maybe Yata more than Rashad. Judging basketball players should be treated differently than just flash.

UGA Men's Basketball Freshman Statistics:

6'7", 200 lbs. F Dominique Wilkins (1979-'80): 16 games, 31.8 mpg, .525 FG%, 73% FT%, 18.6 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.3 bpg

6'5", 225 lbs. G Anthony Edwards (2019-'20): 30 games, 32.7 mpg, .415 FG%, 77.9% FT%, 19.6 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 2.9 apg, 0.6 bpg

***

Note: when Dominique was a freshman at UGA in 1979-'80, the Hoop Dawgs featured four Parade All-Americans:
- Senior G Jimmy Daughtry: avg. 10.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, & 2.9 apg that season
- Senior C Lavon Mercer: avg. 11.5 ppg & 7.8 rpg that season
- Freshman C Terry Fair: avg. 13.6 ppg & 10 rpg that season
- Freshman F Dominique Wilkins: avg. 18.6 ppg & 6.5 rpg that season

Despite the robust talent level, UGA Men's Basketball earned a 14-13 overall record that season (7-11 in SEC games).

***

Note: heading into today's regular season finale, Edwards is 59 points shy of forward Jacky Dorsey's freshman scoring record for the Hoop Dawgs set during the 1974-'75 season. The Antman's 19.6 ppg avg. is the best of any UGA player since junior guard Litterial Green's 20.6 ppg during the 1990-'91 season.

Willie Anderson

With his size and versatility, he would be great in today's NBA.

I was only 5 or 6 at the time so curious if anyone knows why Jeff Malone didnt go to UGA? High school teammate of Terty Fair at Southwest Macon (prolly the best high school team in GA history) who ended up at Miss State. Can you imagine pairing Malone with Nique and Fair and Vern?

James Banks and Lamar Heard were on that team too- no slouches there either. Malone was a dadgum shooter. Would have been a nice complement to what we had.
