Couple of decent seasons, by Temple standards I guess. Has been a grad assistant for Tech in the past. I guess this is about as good as the bugs can do. Gonna be a rough start I suppose....trying to filter out players meant for the TO.
Anybody got any idea what kinda O he ran at Temple?

Anyway, here's to him flopping and being no where near as successful as PJ was...especially against us.

Geoff Collins' Temple offense utilized a spread which ran 54% of the time and passed 46% of the time this season. In comparison, Paul Johnson's offense ran the ball 86% of the time and passed 14% of the time. Fwiw, the Owls' scoring offense avg. 35.6 ppg (tied for #22 in FBS w/ NC State and Georgia Tech) in 2018.

Collins most recently served as Temple's HC the past two seasons and earned a 15-10 record with the Owls. Fwiw, he's originally from Conyers, GA and served as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech from 1999-2001 and as the Yellowjackets tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator in 2006. Note that Georgia Tech's Class of 2007 was ranked #15 in FBS, their only recruiting class ranked higher than 38 this century. Fwiw, Collins also has experience as Mississippi State's then Florida's DC from 2011-'16.

Just read Tech gave him a SEVEN year deal!! That pretty much tells you they expect to be bad the next 2-3 years in transition. We shouldn't have to worry about them for at least that long, probably much longer because even if G-OFF recruits better, will he recruit better than say Vandy in the SEC?? I somehow doubt that. I have no clue what kind of coach he will be but his contract and his comments I believe directed toward UGA gives the Nerds a little bit of what they want but they will have to have patience. They want a guy that HATES UGA-his comments probably tickled them pink, and they want a different offense-which could help what has been horrible defenses, BUT, they might have to wait 2-4 years to win enough to make a bowl game. Our talent gap is already huge between them, now you take away the gimmick offense and I think we blow them out even more than we did this year.

Well, I think they are getting excited that he is going to start running a 'modern' offense and NOW they'll be able to recruit some good players around here. But the problem with that is....WELCOME to the real world of CFB recruiting bug heads! Where are you going to get players like that?.....here in Georgia?! uh....yeah, after UGA, Bama, Clemson and Auburn sift through and get who we want, you can pick up the crumbs. You think you're gonna rise to the top of the ACC recruiting some 2, maybe 3 STAR QB from Chiggerville Highschool that is ranked 178th in the state of UGA and 693 in the nation and expect to beat out Clemson for the ACC?
The bugs are in for a shock...if they thought they were going to have to wonder out to Nevada or North Dakota to find some players before, just wait.....that's kinda my take on it.

They will be able to find a lot of 3 star players in state, and in the surrounding areas, but 3 stars are not going to beat Clemson and UGA-but they feel like they can compete with everyone else-and I tend to agree with how HORRIBLE the ACC is right now. FSU and Miami are now horrible, Clemson is IT and they are not in Tech's division. VT is also bad, I mean it is a total trainwreck of a conference. The problem is, Tech's roster is not suited to play a modern offense, zero TE's, zero QB's that can actually throw passes accurate when they have to, OL that is small and can't pass block, RB's that are the size of most teams slot WR's or too big to be RB-and built more like a FB.

Their defense will improve the quickest because Collins is a DC by trade and they will be facing normal offenses in practice-so their pass defense will not be so dreadful. BUT, they don't have a lot of talent on the side of the ball, just the transition should be quicker. Course they were 4-3, then switched to 3-4 under Woody, and now back to 4-3. Still, I think their D will come around in a couple years, while the offense might take 3-4 years, as they are going to have to totally rebuild their offensive base of players. I suspect some kids will transfer out, and the most important recruit for them now becomes a QB, and some decent WR's as well, and then some better/bigger OL.

They will use academics as the excuse and Collins will soon start using that as he struggles to recruit and losses games. They are NOT just an engineering school but you will hear that time and time again from lazy media folks, so be prepared. Tech is an engineering dominant Institute, but as I have pointed out before, probably 80 or 85% of their football players are not engineer majors.

It's funny Haney, some of my family members are Techies and talking to them about the state of the union now, they just see it as a conspiracy theory of some sort. There are a handful of elite teams, Bama, UGA, Clemson, Notre Dame and 3 or four more, like Ohio St., Oklahoma and LSU that are basically living up in the castle and everyone else are just peasants, roaming the barren countryside. It's impossible to catch up with the way the big dogs recruit and the media just makes it worse with all of the hype and stuff.
They honestly think that there should be some kind of changes that allow for the lesser winning schools to catch up, like in the NFL with giving the worst team the first round pick. They think that Bama and UGA and Clemson should be made to start losing scholly numbers and everyone else should gain some, just to even the field or something like that.
My response to this?.....it hasn't always been this way. Do you think UGA and Clemson got to where they are now over night? We got a good coach and we built some good facilities and they recruit and coach their butts off and now we can stand toe-to-toe with Bama instead of fear them like %90 of the teams in the nation do. If GT wants to do the same, get a good coach, get your rich alums with their fancy engineering degrees and 6 figure salaries to come off the hip and get you a multibazillion dollar weight room and IPF and start recruiting like the devil and get some players, roll up their sleeves and start coaching and maybe you can beat Clemson. In other words, quit whining and start winning!

That is some pathetic attitudes of your Techie family members. But, it sounds like they are NOT using academics as the reason which is different than most I know or most that post anywhere or even media members. Fact is, Tech already has an IPF, they just unveiled their own new locker rooms which were nicely done. Now, they do have a crap stadium to me, but honestly the biggest problem is it is never full-why, well for one their alumni do tend to move back home (they have a LOT of foreign students-I mean a LOT) or they take jobs all over US. That being said, there are enough of them locally that have deep pockets to give more money than they do-and most Tech alums do like to let you know how much money they make. The problem is, from the Tech fans I know or have talked to, they don't exactly welcome the sidewalk fans. Meaning, if you didn't go to school there, you are BENEATH them and they don't want you. It is a very elitist group and so they believe all sidewalk fans are trailer trash, and that is what they think of the many UGA fans. Well guess what, those sidewalk fans have money to spend, either buying tickets, giving money, or buying merchandise, but that group being as smart as they are, can't figure it out. I always have said, Tech folks are VERY smart, I don't take that away from them, but many lack common sense.

Bottom line, better players tend to win games, coaching to me is mostly overrated. Recruiting is the name of the game. Coaching can cost you a game-see Kirby with his boneheaded decision to fake the punt, but most of the time, the most talented team wins the game. I am not sold on G-OFF as being a great coach honestly, but I am SURE he has to be a better recruiter than Turkey Neck, so that being said they should increase their talent level at least.

Haney, that's a new philosophy to me, the 'sidewalk' fans. But I guess if you're not the 'flagship' school in the state, then you don't have the average Joe that just like UGA JUST because they live in the state.
I never went to UGA. My brother did, and so I spent alot of time at games and on the campus. But with our enormous fanbase, I'd love to see the number of fans that actually did go there. So all of that you said makes sense.
I think they are going to have a hard time recruiting no matter what, but this fellow might can get some D talent, since that seems to be his speciality. But like you said.....3 star recruits will get you 7 wins and a bowl game consistently....4 stars and you'll get 9 or 10 wins every year and you can upset a big dog school like Clemson and Bama every once in a while when the planet's align. But you get a steady flow of 4 stars and sprinkle in the 5 star guys....THEN, you can leave the kiddy pool and play with the big boys. Tech is a looooooong way from being there.

Just reading today that Tech is trying to sign a TE that just started playing this season, his SR year as they need TE's and have NONE on the roster. The kid is from up north, can't remember which state-Penn maybe?? Anyway, there are a LOT of sidewalk fans for most SEC programs-I would bet that Bama and the Barn lead the way, and probably Tenn as well. UGA ranks highly in there-before I attended UGA, not a single person in my family had gone to school in Athens, but we were always huge fans. You factor in that UGA has historically recruited more IN STATE than out of state, you have people following friends from their HS as they continue their football careers in Athens. Tech needs to get back to recruiting more kids in state, heck, I know for sure Duke is hitting Ga strongly, and that is a high academic school-kids in the metro ATL mostly go to pretty solid high schools, they usually are smart enough to gain admission. But kids don't want to play at Tech because of the offense-which is now history so maybe it can help them recruiting-just going to take awhile. AFD on another post listed their roster with stars and majors, they don't have a single 4 star on their roster.

Bottom line, I don't really worry much about Tech because with or without the triple option, our record against them since the 80's doesn't show much hope for the Insects.

80's-7-3
90's 7-3
2000's 8-2
10's 7-2

I believe now with the triple option gone, it could go higher with the talent gap being so large and growing.

Just looked and our record against Tech since 1960 is 42-17, that is amazing-especially since the series record is listed as 67-41-5, just tells me that since the early years of the series, it has been pretty well controlled by the Red and Black.Tech won 8 in row in the series from 1949 to 1956. So, from 1956 to 2018, Tech has won 17 games per my count and we have won 44. About this difference we can blame academics and I bet Tech folks would also bring other issues into it but I will not-but they certainly didn't have any problem counting wins against UGA when they had servicemen attending in 1943 and 1944.
