Well folks... We saw our great left tackle (Andrew Thomas) go down with an ankle injury... In years past, we would have thrown in some 2 or 3 star and tried to make things work out... In 2018, under Kirby, we have a 5 star freshman, we could send in to replace the injured left tackle... Cade Mays stepped in performed very well... He will only get better as playing time increases... In laymen's terms, it is called depth... Something we haven't had a lot of in the years past... Think about Jake Fromm replacing Jason Eason and how important that was... The 2019 class is looking very good also... This staff and their recruiting is off the chain... A salute to these guys on a job well done... Go Dawgs...

Quality depth is important for teams to play at a high level for a sustained period.

This season is starting like last year played out, and that is we are blowing teams out and therefore our 2nd and sometimes even 3rd team guys are getting to play against other teams starters. This is the Bama way and every other loaded teams way of reloading. Our guys that are playing now as starters, played a LOT of football last year because we were blowing teams out-so they were very prepared to take over the starting spots this year-just waiting their turn. Same holds true this year, lot of young guys are getting valuable snaps and getting ready for their day to start. This does a couple things-it avoids injuries to your starters as they are coming out in the 3rd and 4th quarter, it also makes the younger guys happy to get the playing time-it shows the recruits you will play true FR, and if they are good enough, they can beat starters out-it breeds incredible competition at practice and in games. I suspect we are going to have more blowouts this year and our young guys will continue to play a lot, get valuable reps and make us stronger for the years to come.
