That link is classic click-bait. To label 3 of those 4 position groups as "yet to be settled" is quite a stretch by Holbein. I get Punter, that will be a battle, no question. And he's right that Camarda may win the job as a Freshman. But the other 3 positions are in very good shape.
In the secondary, he's right about Baker, but McGhee was 2nd on the team in pass break-ups last year, and started a couple games. Someone's going to have to make a huge move to displace him. He doesn't even mention JR Reed, who like Baker has a stranglehold on the Safety spot - he started every game last year and was 2nd on the team in tackles behind you know who. Nor does he mention Richard LeCounte, who got the start at Notre Dame, and has the inside track on that 4th spot. And somebody let him know Tyson Campbell arrived two weeks ago. Now yes, one of the newcomers can come in and earn a starting spot, but they'd have to displace someone who's pretty well established. "Up for grabs"?? Not so much.
Same at Running Back. As good as Zeus and Cook are, Swift is, and will be, the man. We're gonna have a ton of options with Herrien and Holyfield back there as well. And Zamir and Cook's days will come, for certain. But put Swift in there for this year. Ain't no pencil about it.
And he actually mentioned Quarterback? Really? Come on now. Don't get me wrong, Fields has the skill set, there's no debate there. It's just that Fields winning the job is one thing, while winning the *team* is another. And this is Fromm's team. Something major would have to happen there.
Now yes, a freshman can always come in and blow everyone's doors and win a start - and as good as this recruiting class was, it wouldn't be that surprising. But we're in good shape at pretty much every position on the field - at least as far as starters go - except at Punter where I said Holbein has a point. To say these other positions aren't settled just doesn't paint an accurate picture.
