ATHENS - Heading into his third season in Athens, starting cornerback Ellis Robinson is hoping to prove he’s one of the nation’s best.

As a five-star prospect and one of the highest-ranked signees in the Kirby Smart era, expectations could not have been higher for the South Florida prospect as he made his way to Georgia.

Like most young players, there was a major learning curve when Robinson first got to town. He played in just four games as a freshman before starting 12 games last fall as a sophomore. He was picked on early and had a forgettable game against the Vols, but Robinson’s performance continued to improve throughout the 2025 season.

“He's got elite ball skills, elite cover ability, toughness, and he’s a competitor”, Smart told reporters this spring. “The mental disposition and the stamina are probably two reasons he struggled as a freshman. He could probably cover as good guys in front of him but didn't always know exactly what to do. He’s got better at that. He got better at having a short memory. I think the Tennessee game and some of the games where he had some plays given up, grew him up a lot.”

According to FanDuel, the Atlanta Falcons have +220 odds to make the NFL Playoffs this upcoming season.

“There's no good remedy to growing guys up other than go out there and play,” Smart added. “He's played a lot of football and he's playing well right now. He has to play within the system all the time. And that's important that he understands the technique we're asking him to play with. When he does that, he's a really good football player.”

You saw his five-star ability several times last year. He improved his coverage week after week while showing those elite ball skills. Robinson picked off four passes last season, creating those turnovers against Austin Peay, Charlotte, Kentucky, and Georgia Tech. Against the Jackets, Robinson leaped up for a diving INT down the field that had the Mercedes-Benz crowd on their feet.

The improvement last year was easy to see, and now, Robinson has a chance to be an extremely high pick in next year’s NFL Draft. The 6-foot-0 180-pounder has fought his way to the starting lineup and will enter the season as one of the best overall players on Georgia’s roster.

Here’s what Travaris Robinson had to say about Robinson last week...

“Ellis is a really good player. He’s got really elite ball skills. He's a competitor. He's always been that way. He just continued to get better. Now he's starting to understand the game. I'm sure it's slowing down for him. He starting to recognize formations, and that's the next step for a guy like that. The film study. Is that improving? Is it knowledge of the games? Is he learning the splits? He learning all the different things that's gonna help him be a better player, which he's definitely taking ownership in, and he's doing a really good job in fall camp.”
