ATHENS - The theme continues for James Coley on the recruiting trail.
The Georgia Bulldog assistant signed four in-state receivers in the 2026 class, and his newest commitment in the 2027 class also resides in the Peach State.
That would be Sandy Springs native and Mount Vernon star, Taurean Rawlins. The electric pass-catcher committed to Georgia after his official visit last weekend and is coming off an extremely productive junior season where he hauled in 67 passes for just under 1,400 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging about 21 yards per catch.
Rawlins is coached by former Bulldog receiver Terrence Edwards who spoke with Dawg Post recently about Georgia’s newest receiver commitment.
On what Georgia fans need to know about Rawlins...
“He's a good kid, first and foremost. He's a kid that you like to coach because he's still only 16 years old, so he's still got that goofiness to him. But once he gets on a football field he is all business. I love coaching kids that just love being a kid at first, but understands the business aspect of it when it's time to go. As a player, he's a sponge. He loves asking me about the position, things that I see that he could continue to get better at. So I like a kid that's still willing to learn and try to get better each and every day.”

On the moment he knew Rawlins could be special...
“Just the first time seeing him run. You’ve seen him run on tape, but just watching him in person, you see his acceleration and burst and his ability to catch the football at a high point. It just doesn’t do it justice without seeing it in person.”
On what he’s working on most of this spring?
“Just this overall game right now to be more of a vocal leader and to try to expand his route tree. Being able to just control his speed because he's getting stronger in the weight room. He hang cleaned 265 this off season. He squatted 465. So just building his strength, speed, endurance, his ability to catch 50-50 balls and everything else to nurture his overall game.
On his ability to block...
“He does catch a lot of passes but he has a little mean streak in him that he brings out on the field. He's a willing blocker. He will go in and do the dirty work. He wants the ball just like all of us but he's also willing to get one of his teammates open by taking the top off. So he's an unselfish player as well. He's a good teammate. I always say he's a big fish right now in a small pond. But all his teammates, he treats them no other. He doesn't act like he's the top dog and that's what I love about him.”
On where he’ll play in Athens...
“I think he’ll be a Z in college because he has the ability to take the top off. Most schools, especially Georgia, want a bigger X, but he also has the flexibility to go inside because it's his football IQ and understanding of the whole concept of a play. He understands man and zone coverage because that's what we're teaching here. I could say he's could be a Z but he can transition to some slot as well.”
