ATHENS - There’s a new Dawg in Athens.
Former outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe has taken a job with the Dallas Cowboys. Kirby Smart has replaced Uzo-Diribe with West Virginia assistant coach Larry Knight.
“We are excited to add a coach and a man of Coach Knight’s caliber to the staff,” Smart said in a statement. “He has produced on the field at all of his coaching stops and has also proven his worth as one of the best recruiters around. Coach Knight was a conference champion on the field when he played for Central Michigan and I know he is ready to get to work in his home state.”
The Augusta native and former Central Michigan defender has ties to the Peach State as he previously coached at Georgia State (2015-2016) before coaching at Georgia Tech (2019-2021).
Knight coached defensive ends and was the defensive run game coordinator for the Arkansas State Red Wolves during the 2025 season. With his help, the Red Wolves recorded 39 sacks. They ranked 6th in the country in sacks per game.
Known as a dependable recruiter who knows the Peach State well, Knight joined West Virginia last month as a “pass-rush specialist” before being hired by Smart.
Knight will have a talented room waiting for him in Athens led by returning starters Quintavius Johnson and Gabe Harris. The Bulldogs also signed former Auburn pass-rusher Amaris Williams out of the transfer portal. The Bulldogs also have several impressive sophomores looking to see the field in 2026.
