New Orleans, LA - Back in October Ole Miss and quarterback Trinidad Chambliss came to Athens with something to prove.
They were coming to prove that they weren’t the same Ole Miss team. They were coming to light up the scoreboard and prove to the country that they can beat an elite team on the road. Chambliss had the Rebels rolling, scoring touchdowns on their first five drives and putting Georgia on the ropes.
But then the 4th quarter happened.
Georgia’s defense clamped down and dominated Chambliss and the Ole Miss offense over their final three drives. When the game was on the line, Georgia’s defense came through.
While Chambliss certainly impressed with his over 300 total yards, he couldn’t escape Georgia’s defense down the stretch. The impressive passer had a lot to say about the Bulldog defense this week and said they may have been the best group he’s faced all year.
“I wouldn’t say they were the fastest defense but I’d say they were the most physical and well-coached defense we saw this year”, Chambliss told Dawg Post. “They’re a very disciplined defense. The physicality of their linebackers stands out. They come down-hill and they are great in pursuit when quarterbacks get out of the pocket.”
“It's Georgia. They're going to have huge guys. They're going to have five stars; they're going to have four stars that are hungry. Their defensive line is always stacked with dudes that can be in the NFL any given day. So we're going to play our ball. They're coached by Kirby Smart and Coach [Glenn] Schumann on the defensive side, so they're going to be well coached and locked in as well. So we have to be ready as well.”
The Dawgs adjusted back in October and it led to victory Between the Hedges. Now, they’ll have to continue playing physical and making sure they play sound, fundamental defense. They know how quick Chambliss is and they’ve improved their pass rush more and more as the season has moved along.
As for Chambliss and the Rebels, they believe they can run with Georgia, but if they’re hoping to pull an upset, they know they’ll have to match Georgia’s physicality and discipline.
As expected, look for the Dawgs to stay hungry and continue to play to their physical standard. They did it in the 4th quarter in game one and they need to continue that trend on Thursday night.
