ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are 9-1 and have another big game in Athens this weekend.

However, it’s not big because Charlotte is in town. It’s big because it’s Senior Day.

This might be a young Georgia team, but there are still several important seniors who will be playing their final game inside Sanford Stadium.

One of those seniors is tight end Oscar Delp. The veteran Bulldog won a national championship as a freshman and is in a position to possibly help lead the Dawgs to another one in his final season.

But right now, Delp is focused on his final game Between the Hedges. Kirby Smart told reporters on Monday that this is always a special game and he had a lot to say this week about his senior tight end.

“He was really mature last year”, Smart told reporters. “He was a third-year player that was really like a fourth-year player, and this year he's a fourth-year player that's like a fifth-year player. He does things naturally that you just get over time. He's really smart, really wise and has great spatial awareness of who to block and when to block them.”

That’s where Delp has thrived during his time in Athens. He’s been a reliable weapon in the passing game, catching 67 passes for 828 yards and nine touchdowns, but his impact in the run game has been really, really important. He’s a physical, willing blocker who has made a big impact in Georgia’s rushing attack for four years now.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the Los Angeles Rams have +550 odds to win the Super Bowl this season.

“You can put more on Oscar than you can somebody else because he's seen it all and done it all”, Smart added. “You can't put a value on what he does for the team. He's just incredible. He leads. He's got passion, fire and energy. He's playing really physical this year, and he has grown up. He's practiced better too this year, but he didn't practice poorly before, he has just improved that. He fits the identity of our offense really well. He fits Gunner [Stockton] really well because some of the things that he does are made possible through guys like Oscar and Lawson [Luckie].

Delp’s always had the physical tools to be successful at Georgia, but over time he also improved his maturity and leadership qualities. Now, he’s one of the best overall leaders on the team and has been one of the faces of the program for at least two years now.

It should be an emotional day for the Delp family on Saturday. Oscar is having a really strong final season and should see some opportunities to find the end-zone in his final home game this weekend.

After that, the goal is to leave Athens the same way he arrived.

As a national champion.
