ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs will be without starting wide receiver Colbie Young.
Smart confirmed with reporters on Tuesday that the senior wideout is going to be out after a leg fracture that occured on a big completion in the first quarter of Georgia’s giant win over Ole Miss. Smart didn’t specify a recovery timetable or specific bone fracture. He just clumped Young with other players that are dealing with injuries and said, “Yeah, those guys are going to be out.”
He has not been confirmed to be out for the season, but a return seems unlikely.
“It’s not good,” Smart told reporters after the game.
Young was seen in a wrap/brace of sorts on his leg and was sporting crutches to keep the weight off. He was extremely emotional as he stood at midfield after the game soaking in everything that had occured that day.
Young took to Snapchat after the game to get a message out that read “Hell of a way to end it... 8 out.”
The veteran pass-catcher has been a reliable option all year long for Gunner Stockton and the Bulldog offense, hauling in 23 passes this season for 336 yards and one touchdown.
Now, expect transfer wideout Noah Thomas to step up in Young’s role. Thomas brings the same type size and a similar skillset, so look for him to see more opportunities on the outside the rest of the season.
The Georgia Bulldogs are off this weekend and will take on the Florida Gators in Jacksonville on Nov 1. The Dawgs are 6-1 on the season with a 4-1 record in conference play. The game will kick off at 3:30 PM on ABC.
