ATHENS - After landing 16 giant commitments already this month, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs end June with a bang, landing 4-star defensive lineman Preston Carey.
The big 6-foot-4 280-pound defensive tackle out of IMG Academy (FL) chose the Bulldogs tonight over Florida, Auburn, among others.
Carey becomes the 10th Georgia commitment over the last nine days and the fourth defensive line commitment for assitant Tray Scott this month. The Dawgs now have six defensive line commitments in the 2026 class.
The New York native took his official visit to Georgia the weekend of May 15th before taking visits to Florida, Auburn, and the hometown school, Rutgers. When it was time to make a final decision, the promising lineman decided that Georgia was the best fit.
Carey is ranked as the No. 30 DL prospect and the No. 298 overall prospect in the country for the 2026 class.
Why did Carey commit to Georgia?
“Georgia’s been the best at developing first round talent on the defensive line. The culture is also very different at Georgia than any other college in America. You have to buy into the want to be elite at Georgia. They produce talent all the time because the people that go there buy into the developmental piece Georgia has. Their pitch was that all defensive lineman who come to Georgia all have the same thing in common. They want to win and be around elite players and they want to be developed by a coach that is the best in the country the past 5 years at developing first round talent at DL!”
What will Carey bring to Athens?
Size, power, and potential.
Playing at IMG, Carey has turned into one of the top DL prospects in the South and has the junior film to back it up.
He’s big and strong at 6-foot-5 300-pounds with impressive quickness for his size. He fires off the ball and has a knack for sliding through opposing offensive linemen to create havoc in the backfield. He has big hands, a long wingspan, and shows a strong motor on film. If not blocked correctly, Carey is going to blow up the play in the backfield. He’s a stout run defender who fills up the gaps in the trenches and can make a big tackle on or behind the line of scrimmage. He plays with good leverage and is tough to move backwards. Overall, he’s another solid addition who can help bring Georgia more depth in the middle of Scott’s defensive line.
