ATHENS - For the fourth consecutive day, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have landed a major commitment in the 2026 class.
And as we’ve previously reported, there are more on the way...
This time it’s four-star running back Jae Lamar who jumps on board, committing to Georgia over the Miami Hurricanes and the Clemson Tigers.
To say this is “massive” is an understatement. Lamar had been a major Georgia target since earning an offer in early October during his breakout junior season for Colquitt County.
Clemson and Miami gave him a lot to think about, but after his official visit to Georgia last weekend, the 6-foot-0 205-pounder from Moultrie decided to stay in the state to play for Josh Crawford and the Dawgs.
Here’s what Colquitt County head coach Sean Calhoun had to say about Lamar...
“His biggest strengths on the field are his physicality, competitive drive, love for his teammates, and love for the game. As a prospect, his combination of size, speed and physicality make him one of the nation’s best. He can be a home run hitter and he can muscle his way for those tough short yardage situations.”
What will Lamar bring to Athens?
A little bit of everything.
Size. Speed. Power. Balance. This young man has it all.
An unknown prospect heading into the 2024 season, Lamar quickly showed why he should be ranked among the best of the best across the 2026 class. After running through a talented Lee County defense early in the season for 126 yards and one touchdown, Lamar lit up the Lowndes Vikings for 182 yards and two touchdowns. A few days later, the Bulldogs extended an offer.
Lamar shared carries with senior Dayshawn Brown last season, but when he got his opportunities, he certainly made the most of them. He’s a tackle-breaking machine and one of the fastest backs you’ll find across the South. Lamar claims a 4.36 in the 40-yard dash, an outstanding time for someone over 200-pounds.
However, it’s his balance and change of direction that may be the most impressive part of his game. There’s no tackling this guy down low. There’s no tripping him up. Lamar does a great job of staying on his feet when knocked off balance and has the ability to put his foot in the ground and change directions on a dime. He’s incredibly quick and sudden for a guy his size who can out-run defenders down the field. He’s dangerous in the open field and has no problem making a defender miss in space if he doesn’t feel like running through them.
He bounces off defenders with ease and can pick up tough yards in the trenches. He falls forward at the end of runs and is so tough to knock backwards. He runs behind his pads and is great in short-yards situations and around the goal-line. He also shows soft hands and the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.
The Dawgs needed to land an elite running back in the class, and now they have one in Jae Lamar.
As a junior last fall, Lamar carried the ball just 112 times for 885 yards (7.9 yard per carry) with 11 touchdowns. He also caught eight passes for 172 yards and two more scores.
Lamar is ranked as the No. 9 RB prospect and the No. 122 overall prospect in the country.
