ATHENS - For the 15th time in his recruitment, five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson took a visit to see Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs.

It’s safe to say this visit was the biggest.

After taking official visits to Clemson and Oregon this summer, it was Georgia’s chance to deliver their best pitch to the elite in-state linebacker over the weekend.

According to Atkinson, the big official visit was one he’ll never forget.

“The visit overall was really good!!” Atkinson told Dawg Post. “It was definitely an official visit I will never forget. My family really enjoyed their time on this visit as well. UGA made sure everything went smooth for them, too.  UGA is still one of my top schools.  I feel like the relationship at UGA is real just like the relationships I have developed at my other tops schools as well.”

According to FanDuel, the Oklahoma City Thunder are 9.5-point favorites over the Indiana Pacers in Game 5 of the NBA Finals.

“Even with this being my 15th visit, I still saw and learned some new things which is crazy to me. It's like a movie you have seen over and over, but there is always something new that pops out. I spent most of my time with Coach Schumann, Coach T-Rob, Coach Smart and the defensive staff. The entire staff showed me how important it was to them that I stay home and play for the Dawgs.”

“This visit was special because it was my official,” Atkinson added. “All the officials I have taken and plan to take are special, though. These visits could potentially be the last visit that I take to that particular school.”

The Bulldogs first offered Atkinson back in March of 2022 when he was still in 8th grade. They knew there was something special about the Middle School star and have treated him like a top priority for over three years now. Many experts and insiders penciled him to Georgia’s class a long time ago due to his long-standing relationship with Coach Smart and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann.

“Coach Schumann knows the game of football”, Atkinson said. “He’s knowledgeable and has coached some of the best linebackers in the league right now. It’s great to get over there and learn from him. Everyone wants to be part of a winning program and Coach Smart does a great job of pushing his guys. They love the way I play the game. I’ve been taking visits to Georgia since I was in 8th grade. They tell me they want a guy like me in the program.”

It’s clear the Dawgs have positioned themselves well with the Grayson (GA) star. However, this is far from a slam dunk for Smart and the defensive staff. Sources say the Clemson Tigers have done a great job in his recruitment, along with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Right now, sources say those two are Georgia’s biggest competitors for the nation’s No. 1 linebacker. Oregon and Texas are also still in the mix as well.

Now that he’s taken his official to Georgia, look for Atkinson and his family to check out either Texas or Ohio State this upcoming weekend.

As a junior last fall, leading Grayson to a state championship, Atkinson made 166 tackles with 32 TFLs, 13 sacks, one INT, one forced fumble, and one blocked kick, leading the Grayson Rams to a state championship.
