ATHENS - One of the nation’s top defensive back prospects will be returning to Athens next weekend for Georgia’s annual G-Day scrimmage.

In fact, it will be an official visit for elite safety, Jireh Edwards‍. Ranked as the No. 2 safety prospect and the No. 49 overall prospect in the country, Edwards announced that week that he has set up official visits to Georgia (April 12th), Auburn (May 30th) and Alabama (June 6th).

The 6-foot-1 200-pounder out of St. Frances Academy (MD) was in Athens in early February for a Jr. Day visit and came away impressed.

“I learned more about player development and a deeper meaning of the game”, Edwards told Dawg Post. “They were keeping it real and let me know I’m a special talent and I’m definitely a guy they want to see in that Red and black.”

As a player, it’s easy to see why Edwards is ranked where he is. He brings size, length, instincts, and a physical presence in the run game. He can get down-hill and make a big hit in the backfield, but also shows range and ball skills down the field in coverage. He’s a versatile defensive back who brings a lot to the table and someone Georgia fans should keep a close eye on.

DON’T FORGET YOUR FANDUEL BETS!!

According to FanDuel, the Detroit Lions have +500 odds to win the NFC Championship during the 2025 season regular season next fall.

In other news, the Bulldogs had an impressive wide receiver target back in town this week in Hewitt-Trussville (AL) standout Dylan Cope.  The 6-foot-3 190-pounder earned an offer from the Dawgs on January 29th and left Athens this week impressed with what he saw from practice.

“The biggest thing I learned from watching Georgia practice is you have to be in the playbook to learn the concepts. Georgia is special in my eyes because they have a great coaching staff that gets after the players. They have beautiful facilities as well. When I think of a Dawg I think of a hard-working, well-disciplined football player.”

Cope plans to be in Athens for his official visit the weekend of June 13th.

Another Georgia target to keep an eye on moving forward is Brooks County (GA) defensive back, Traeviss Stevenson. A current Georgia Tech commitment, Stevenson is one of the top 2026 defensive backs in South Georgia coming off a strong junior season where he made play after play on both sides of the ball. A natural athlete with a lengthy 6-foot-1 180-pound frame, Stevenson made 74 tackles and four big interceptions. He also helped on offense, catching 29 passes for 244 yards and one more touchdown.
