BREAKING: UGA Football Gave Mike Bobo Contract Extension
ATHENS - UGA Football offensive coordinator Mike Bobo received a contract extension headed into the 2024 season.
That’s according to reporting from the Athens Banner-Herald’s Marc Weiszer. Bobo signed a one-year extension to the agreement he had with UGA. That means Bobo is under contract at UGA for two more seasons.
The extension has not previously been reported.
Bobo was coming off a stellar 2023 season that saw the Bulldogs end the season going 13-1 and winning the Orange Bowl. Bobo was also named a finalist for the Frank Broyles Award, which goes to the nation’s top assistant coach.
Georgia will start spring football on Tuesday. UGA’s G Day game will be on Saturday, April 12. It will be Bobo’s third season as offensive coordinator under Kirby Smart. Bobo previously served as offensive coordinator under the Bulldogs’ previous coach Mark Richt.
Weiszer reports that Bobo’s salary will be $1.503 million on July 1, 2025. It will then increase to $1.603 million on July 1, 2026.
UGA scored 31.5 points a game in 2024 - down from just over 40 points a game Bobo’s offense managed in 2023.
“Football is football. We're really running very similar plays that we ran 27 years ago when I started coaching,” Bobo told reporters before the 2024 season. "Might be just out of different formations and different personnels and using different guys.”
Bobo will have to deal with significant change in 2025. Carson Beck and a slew of offensive linemen have left the program. Gunner Stockton will have to hold off Ryan Puglisi to retain the starting job at quarterback.
The Bulldogs will have to assemble a new offensive line, and figure out how to be more explosive on offense. Several new transfers into the program could help UGA solve that problem this fall.
Georgia opens the 2025 season against Marshall Between the Hedges. The Bulldogs are currently a betting favorite to win the national title.
