ATHENS - UGA Football starting quarterback Carson Beck will miss the Sugar Bowl per a report from On3. ESPN insiders are reporting the same news.
This was the expectation after Beck sustained an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) in the elbow of his throwing arm on the final play of the first half of the SEC Championship game back on Dec. 7. He was deemed unable to return to action just before the start of the second half. Kirby Smart said during the game that Beck had trouble gripping and throwing the ball in the locker room at halftime, so he would not be able to continue.

This news was expected at some point, although neither Georgia nor Beck have commented officially on the situation since the night of the title game, so this is not a final ruling.

Gunner Stockton, the redshirt sophomore from Rabun County, Georgia took over for Beck and helped lead the Dawgs over Texas in a 22-19 victory in overtime - the first of the conference championship’s history.
Stockton himself endured a huge hit from Texas defenders on the penultimate play in overtime in which his helmet went flying into the air. The hit was deemed not a targeting violation, so Stockton was forced to sit out a play. In surprising and poetic fashion, Beck was sent out on the field, right arm limp, to take the snap and hand the ball off to Trevor Etienne on what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown.
After the game, Smart said that Stockton was fine.
Now he is expected to lead Georgia in Beck’s shoes for at least the Sugar Bowl, but that seems likely to be the case for the entire playoff run if Georgia advances further.
If Beck has played his final snap as a Georgia Bulldog, then he finished his career with 7,712 passing yards, 58 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. He started the last 27 games for Georgia.
Stockton will now look to make his first career start in New Orleans against the winner of Indiana-Notre Dame on Friday night.
