ATHENS - UGA football coach Kirby Smart is only interested in taking phone calls from Isaiah Gibson‍ if he’s committing to the Dawgs.

Gibson is one of the most sought after recruits in the 2025 cycle, and the Bulldogs are in a fight with Ohio State and others to sign the five-star prospect this December.

“I think Georgia’s in the driver’s seat with a possible commitment coming in the next few weeks before the start of his senior season,” Dawg Post insider Matt DeBary said of the Warner Robins defender.

Gibson is a consensus top-20 national prospect. That’s one reason why he’s so important for the programs recruiting him. His status as one of the top in-state players in Georgia is another reason why his recruiting story is getting so much attention in the state.

Then again, Kirby’s eagerness to get a commitment from Gibson was evident during the FaceTime. It remains to be seen if Kirby’s broadcast call will help the Dawgs further with Gibson.

“Gibson just had a recent visit to Ryan Day and Ohio State,” DeBary added. “But he was in Athens the weekend of June 22nd for an unofficial visit. That’s his third visit to Georgia over the last several weeks.”

According to FanDuel, the Cincinnati Bengals have +1400 odds to win the Super Bowl next season.

The video of Gibson was released by the outlet Overtime, and it shows prospects talking with one another about the most famous person they could reach out to who was in their phone Prospects were then encouraged call or FaceTime that person. Gibson announced that for him Kirby is the most famous person - and he calls the two-time national championship-winning coach by FaceTime.

“Don’t call me unless you’re ready to commit,” Kirby told Gibson when he picked up - going on to tell Gibson that he looked forward to seeing his mother soon when everyone was in town.

Gibson is one of a slew of high-powered prospects from the Peach State this recruiting cycle. Seven prospects in Georgia are considered consensus 5-star prospects. At 6-4, 245, Gibson is considered the No. 1 prospect in the country at his position.

“He can overpower people because of his lengthy frame,” DeBary said. “He’s a natural pass rusher who will only get better once he gets to college.”
