ATHENS — Georgia Bulldog defensive back Malaki Starks spoke with media Monday to discuss the upcoming SEC Championship game against Texas and offered the following comments...

On playing a team twice and what he remembers from day one...

“I mean, yeah. I think the biggest thing I remember is that they have a very explosive offense. They're very well-coached. They got great athletes everywhere. They really do. I don't mind going against a team twice. I think it's a little bit different. It's never the same. Teams grow and they change. You can't hang or your hat on the last one, win or lose. I'm excited to compete. They got a really good team and I know the guys are ready.

On potentially facing two quarterbacks and how that impacts a week of preparation...

I think the biggest thing is just knowing the strengths and weaknesses of both quarterbacks. You can't play both the same because they're not the same quarterback. They're good at two different things. They're both good at throwing the ball, but they both have different qualities that makes them a really good quarterback that they are. You just have to prepare. Even like just calling the game, you got to call the game different when you have two different guys in. When you look at the preparation we had last week. Philo didn't get in. We had a completely different game plan for Philo than we did King. I think it's just knowing the opponents and knowing what they're good at.

On recovery from Georgia’s eight overtime win over Georgia Tech...

Yeah, I think we had a long game. The good thing about having the game on the Friday, you have Saturday off. Had treatment at the facility, but that was it. So you have that Saturday. Sunday you come back and you put Georgia Tech to bed, you go back to work. There's another game that needs to be played. You can't hang your hat on the last game, no matter how short of a week it was, how long of a game it was. You just got to treat it like a regular week.”

On Texas’ changes from the previous matchup…

"I think when you look at it their ability to run the ball, that changed I would say. They look a lot more physical. Still very explosive when you look at it. They're not the same Texas team that we played before, we're not the same Georgia team. They've grown in areas and so have we and we just have to go back to work."
On playing in the SEC Championship…

"I think it means a lot. A lot of people questioned us about how the year was going and what type of team that we have and our abilities and what we can do. I think just being able to get in the game says a lot about who we are. We really want to take it day by day. If we take the right steps, when we get there Saturday we put everything in the bank and we're able to go play our best."

On differences in the team from the first game…

“When you look at it, we have been battle tested. We have figured out what our strengths and weaknesses are. We are just trying to hone in on those. Just get better day by day, take the steps we need to take to be the best team we can be.”

On the Texas wide receiver group…

“Very explosive, like I said the first time we met up. The fact that they have two quarterbacks who are very knowledgeable, they can both hurt you in the run and in the pass. I think that is huge and just having a group like that, he have an escape to, no matter who the receiver is. That is huge.”
