ATHENS - It’s been a rough season so far for the Georgia Bulldogs running backs.

Between multiple injuries and having to work hard for every yard, Georgia’s backs have had a rocky fall. But according to Kirby Smart, help could be on the way.

“We'll know more today (Monday)”, Smart said. “You know, Branson and Roderick (Robinson) both have looked good in the last week in terms of picking up their pace, running, cutting. We're going to progress them today. They're going to do more today than they have. They ran, I guess you all saw them Saturday run. They did more yesterday. We're day by day with those guys. But there's a possibility. So we're excited about them getting back to work.”

Getting their two bowling ball running backs would be a welcome sight. Trevor Etienne has proved to be one of the best bcks in the conference, but he’s still fighting through injuries himself. Nate Frazier has improved more and more as the season has moved along, but still, he doesn’t bring the same skillset as the two Robinsons do.

Roderick Robinson has been out all season due to a lingering turf toe injury, but when he’s healthy, he’s a chain-moving bruiser who can wear down on a defense. Just ask Florida State.

Branson Robinson saw the field at times earlier this season, but he didn’t completely look like himself. He’s battled injuries throughout his career and will give Georgia another quality back once he gains his health and confidence back.

The first goal is to get Etienne back and as healthy as possible. He’s their best back on the roster and a guy the Bulldogs will need in a big way sooner than later. But if Roderick Robinson can work his way back to full health, he’ll give the Dawgs another punishing back that they can rely on in short-yardage situations.

This Bulldog team still has everything in front of them. They’ve got a rivalry game with the Jackets this weekend, but the bigger prize is still on the table. If the Dawgs can get healthy, especially at running back, we might FINALLY see what this offense can do with every piece available.
