ATHENS - ESPN’s College Gameday can’t seem to get enough of Kirby Smart’s UGA Football program. College Gameday will broadcast from Austin, Texas this Saturday as the Longhorns welcome to the Georgia Bulldogs for an SEC game for the first time ever.
The Bulldogs are coming off of an afternoon clash win Mississippi State on Saturday. Gameday previously broadcast from Tuscaloosa for the No. 4 Alabama's 41-34 win over No. 1 Georgia. Georgia is 17-18 when ESPN's College Gameday is on hand for a game including 3-6 in true road games.
Georgia last played Texas in the 85th annual Sugar Bowl following the 2018 season. The Longhorns upset the Bulldogs 28-21, and the "We're back" meme began for Texas. The Longhorns then went a collective 28-20 before the 2023 season that saw the Horns get into the College Football Playoff for the first time. In 2024, Texas joined the SEC for the first time ever. The game with the Bulldogs is the first matchup for the Horns against a traditional SEC power. Texas played Oklahoma in Dallas Saturday.
The Bulldogs and Horns have played well collectively this season. Texas and UGA are two of only three teams that have been ranked No. 1 in the AP Poll this college football season. The other No. 1 team this season, Alabama, was upset by Vanderbilt last weekend as was Tennessee - sending the Third Saturday in October rivalry to an afternoon spot on ABC rather than the spotlight of primetime and College Gameday.
