ATHENS - New UGA football wide receivers coach James Coley is off to a tremendous start in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The Georgia Bulldog assistant landed a big in-state commitment this spring from four-star Thomas Blackshear, and now he’s landed a commitment from one of the top wideouts in the country.

That would be four-star, Talyn Taylor‍.

A versatile and dynamic multi-sport standout from Illinois, sources say Georgia blew Taylor and his family away during an unofficial visit to Athens in late March and took a commanding lead in his recruitment after his official visit to Georgia the weekend of May 31st.

Now, Taylor is on the commit list, choosing Georgia over Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and many others.

According to FanDuel, the Chicago Cubs currently have +500 odds to win the NL Central this year.

What is Georgia getting in Taylor?

James Coley and the Dawgs are getting an outstanding athlete and a natural pass-catcher. A speedy, sure-handed wideout who is dangerous after the catch, Taylor’s athleticism, burst, and big-play ability stand out immediately on film. He may not have lit up the stat sheet last year, catching just 32 catches for 512 yards and 6 TDs, but he only played in 8 games. He shows quick feet, can change directions quickly, and does a great job of securing the ball and getting up the field in a hurry. He eludes defenders with ease and can out-run defensive backs on his way to the end-zone. He also shows good body control, the ability to work the sidelines, and a strong vertical, allowing him to snatch the ball over smaller defenders.

At 6-foot-1 175-pounds, he brings a lean frame with the ability to add more muscle and mass over time. When you watch him play, it’s easy to see why Coley and the staff pushed hard for his commitment. He’s a fluid runner who can create separation in single coverage and test defensive backs down the field. He’s been tough to handle throughout the 7-on-7 circuit this spring and summer, and his best football is still way ahead of him. A twitchy athlete with strong, dependable hands, Taylor is an outstanding pickup for Coley and the Bulldog offense.

Taylor’s father was Tavian Banks, an Iowa RB from 1994-1997 who was named Big 10 Co-Offensive Player of the Year and a 4th round pick by the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Geneva Community (IL) standout is ranked as the No. 9 WR prospect and the No. 50 overall prospect in the country for the 2025 class.

Coley and the Dawgs now have two wide receiver commitments in the 2025 class with room for at least two or three more in this current cycle.
