Loganville, GA - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs are looking to make a big run in the 2025 class this weekend as they hosted a giant list of official visitors.
But make no mistake, the Georgia staff still has their eyes on the future, and they're sitting in an excellent position with one of the nation’s top 2026 prospects.
That would be 5-star linebacker, Tyler Atkinson. He may not be in this current 2025 class, but Atkinson is an elite defender that Georgia fans need to know about. The tough, instinctive, productive 6-foot-3 210-pounder is coming off a dominant sophomore season for the Grayson Rams where he made an eye-opening 197 tackles, 25 TFLs and 10.5 sacks.
He’s an elite defender who has already been a major target for Glenn Schumann for years now. Atkinson recently spoke with Dawg Post about his interest in Georgia and what he’s looking for in a school.
“The last time I was in Athens was in March for their first day of spring practice in pads”, Atkinson told Dawg Post. “The coaches I have the best relationships with are Glenn Schumann and Kirby Smart.”
“Coach Schumann knows the game of football”, Atkinson added. “He’s knowledgeable and has coached some of the best linebacks in the league right now. It’s great to get over there and learn from him. Everyone wants to be part of a winning program and Coach Smart does a great job of pushing his guys. They love the way I play the game. I’ve been taking visits to Georgia since I was in 8th grade. They tell me they want a guy like me in the program.
What is Atkinson looking for in a school?
“The biggest factor in my decision is the relationship with the coaches. Also, the defensive line front is really important. I’m looking to play for a great defensive line in front of me. I definitely pay attention to who they’re recruiting. I’m looking for a school that consistently puts guys at my position in the NFL as well. All of that will play a big role, along with the scheme they run defensively.
What makes Georgia special?
What makes Georgia special is how everyone is invested into the program and into the schools. Everyone wants to go to the league over there. Everyone works hard and everyone brings good vibes over there. The players and the coaches have also made it special over there.
Atkinson, one of the top defenders in the country, is ranked as the No. 1 LB prospect and the No. 9 overall prospect in the country.
