UGA Baseball's Slate Alford Named SEC Player of the Week

ATHENS - Georgia Bulldog junior Slate Alford has been named the Southeastern Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Alford notched an SEC best 15 total bases, nine RBI and three home runs in leading Georgia to a 3-0 sweep of UNC Asheville. A 6-3, 236-pound native of Madison, Ala., he batted .429 (6-for-14) in the series and provided perfect fielding in seven total chances. He made two starts at third base and one at second base.
Alford’s first two hits as a Georgia Bulldog were home runs on Opening Day. Then, he provided a three-run walk-off home run to run-rule UNC Asheville in the eighth inning of game two. He collected three hits and three RBI in this past Sunday’s win.
Along with Alford, the SEC honored catcher/DH Hayden Travinski (LSU) who batted .636-1-4 plus pitchers Carson Myers (Auburn), AJ Causey (Tennessee) and freshman Justin Lebron (Alabama).
Up next, Georgia (3-0) travels to Atlanta on Tuesday to face Georgia State (1-2). First pitch will be at 3 p.m. and be available on the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
