ATHENS - Georgia football running back Dwight Phillips Jr. spoke with reporters this week about his touchdown against Oklahoma, the running back room, special teams and more.
On scoring his first touchdown...
“I was just running. It felt crazy. My teammates blocked it up really well and it was just time for me to make a play. I never been caught from behind before so I was just running.”
On hit big tackle on special teams...
“That one felt good. I was a gunner and I’ve been wanting to make a big tackle, too. I just ran down there. Landon took a shot, and I was ready to just wrap him up and get him to the ground.”
“I'm not gonna lie I think I like the tackle, too. When I was little in youth football, I used to play linebacker. I used to be real physical. So that tackle meant a lot to me.”

“Just keeps building it. Most of my coaches and my teammates have confidence in me. That means in every everything so just continue to work hard.”
“I’m just working hard, getting the playbook, putting on some more weight, because I just wasn't ready.”

“Yeah the coaching staff I just always keep trusting them, putting in the work and it's working out. But I still have long ways to go.”
On not entering the transfer portal...
“I just believe in trusting the process. It's God's time, God's plan, and just focusing on that, and focusing on myself, just getting better each and every week.”
On scoring his first touchdown against Florida...
Yeah, the coaching staff trusted me. The thing that meant the most for me was the Modido, my teammates had for me. I had a lot of joy in my success, and it meant a lot to me.
On Nate Frazier...
“He's a great teammate. He was happy for us and that meant a lot for us.”
On Kirby Smart wanting to get him the ball more...
“It meant a lot, but anything I can do to help this team win, I'm willing to do, really. That's it. Running back or special teams.”
On Vanderbilt...
“Yeah, we just need to be ready. They’re a physical team. They came back against NC State so we need to be prepared and ready.”
On the influence from his father...
“Yeah, I still work on my dad. He’s a very positive influence. My mom was pretty fast as well so it's really just in the genetics.”
On his relationship with the other running backs...
“Yeah, our connection is really strong. We hang out off the field all the time. Just learning from those guys means a lot.”
