ATHENS - It’s been a busy month of January so far for Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs as they’ve hit the road to find new targets across the country.

New offers are being extended, and the Bulldogs have found plenty of new targets in both the 2025 and 2026 class.

Down in Jacksonville, a new 2026 target to know is versatile defender, Simeon Caldwell. The playmaking linebacker/safety has easy SEC-caliber size at 6-foot-3 185-pounds and is coming off a massive sophomore season for the Bolles School.

Caldwell was a tackling machine last fall as he made 137 tackles, three INTs and 11 TFLs. He’s an active run defender with tremendous ball skills in coverage.

“I was excited when I heard about the Georgia offer”, Caldwell said. “I was born in Georgia about an hour away from Athens so even though I haven’t lived there for a long time it still feels special. The school is a great school. The top of the top. They’ve only lost 1 game in 2 years or something like that so they are one of the top premier programs in the country. I’m also real familiar with Troy Bowles who is there now. Our dads coached together for a long time so we basically grew up together.”

According to FanDuel, the Connecticut Huskies have excellent +950 odds to win the NCAA tournament this season.

A new in-state EDGE defender to keep an eye on is Gainesville (GA) standout, Xavier Griffin. A dominant 6A pass-rusher at 6-foot-4 215-pounds, Griffin can beat opposing tackles with both speed and power off the edge. He already has a long, D1-caliber frame and showed last fall that he’s lightning quick off the snap. Not only is he one of the top pass-rushers in 6A, but he’s quickly becoming one of the very best across the 2026 class. His size, motor, and natural ability to get into the backfield makes him a nightmare for opposing quarterbacks. He’s coming off a breakout sophomore season where he made 52 tackles, 20 TFLs and nine sacks. His stock is on the rise, and his recruitment is about to take off. The fast-rising defender has earned recent offers from Georgia, Duke, and Vanderbilt over the last two weeks.  and he will only get better and better through the off-season. Look for him to have a giant junior season next fall as he attempts to lead the Red Elephants to a big 6A state championship.

Griffin wasn’t the only in-state prospect to earn an offer from the in-state Bulldogs. 2025 ATH Sam Turner, a multi-sport star out of Southwest Dekalb (GA) who earned an offer from Bryan McClendon this past week. As a junior last fall, the 6-foot-3 190-pounder caught 55 passes for 950+ yards and 8 touchdowns. He’s a major weapon down the field with breakaway speed and dependable hands. He’s dangerous in the open field and can score from anywhere on the field. He’s one of the top overall athletes in the area, and with Georgia extending an offer, look for more to come his way soon.
