ATHENS - After fighting off a tough Missouri Tiger team last weekend, Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs will host a top-10 Ole Miss team who still has their season goals ahead of them.

Smart and his defenses will be tested in a big way once again as they’ll take on quarterback Jaxson Dart and play-caller, Lane Kiffin, one of the best offensive minds in college football.

The Rebels are coming off a hard-fought victory over the Texas Aggies this past weekend, but Kiffin said during his Monday press conference this week that this doesn’t get much bigger than this upcoming game against Georgia.

“We have a gigantic challenge ahead of us, going to play the No. 1 team in the country at their place at night. The last time someone beat them over there was five years ago. I can’t ask the last coach to beat them there about them because he’s on their staff. There aren’t a lot of answers out there about how to beat those guys in Athens. We have to have a really good week of practice. They have elite players, and elite staff, and we’re playing them on the road. What’s the hardest thing to pull off? This is it.”

On Sunday night football, the New York Jets are 1.5-point favorites to defeat the Vas Levas Raiders next weekend according to FanDuel.

Kiffin and Smart know each other well from their days at Alabama together, but the two have not squared off against each other yet as head coaches.

Still, there’s a lot of mutual respect between the two coaches who both have their teams in the top-10.

“Kirby (Smart) has obviously done an unbelievable job. They’ve got a lot of great players and their quarterback plays really well. He’s smart and has a great arm. They added the two receivers in the portal to strengthen their position out there. They’re as great as advertised. When they have to rise up, they do. This isn’t their first rodeo of playing in big games.”

OF course, Kiffin has coached in some big games before. He coached in the NFL, at Southern Cal, Tennessee, and of course might FAU. He knows what it takes to coach in big games, but did acknowledge that it really doesn’t get much bigger than this one coming up in Athens, Georgia.

“I feel like this one is different. Whether that’s right or wrong. It feels like we’re playing with house money. Nobody expects us to win. We’re double-digit underdogs. We’re just going to go over there and see what happens.”

Kiffin knows his team has their backs against the wall. He knows how hard it is to come to Athens and beat the Bulldogs. He knows both his staff and his players have to bring their very best if they want to leave Athens with a win.

The Rebels have a fantastic offense coming to town, but if you want to beat Georgia, you have to play sound, physical football in all three phases of the game for four quarters. And to do it in Athens? At night?

Good luck, Lane.
