ATHENS - “They don’t look pretty, but they win effectively.”

That’s what ESPN’s Paul Finebaum had to say about UGA football after their latest win over No. 12 Missouri this past weekend in Athens.

For the record, Finebaum does have Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs ranked No. 1 in the country, but his statement makes sense.

This isn’t a “flashy” Georgia team. They’re not crushing teams from beginning to end. They aren’t burying teams into the ground by halftime. Well, they’re still doing it against Florida, but we haven’t seen it happen on a weekly basis.

Like Finebaum said, it hasn’t always been pretty through the first nine games of the season. The first half against South Carolina wasn’t great. Neither was the first half against Auburn. They sure didn’t dominate Missouri the way they did last time the Tigers came to Athens.

Slow starts both offensively and defensively have been a theme so far this season. They’ve won all nine games, and they do look like the No. 1 team in the country a majority of the time, but the explosiveness and the “flash” hasn’t been there as much.

And that’s alright. A win is a win, and this team has won games in multiple different ways this season.

Right now, the Atlanta Falcons are 1.5-point favorites to defeat the Arizona Cardinals next weekend according to FanDuel.

This is a lunch-pail type of team. They can grind it out. They can play tough, physical football for four quarters. They’ve had to earn just about every yard offensively and every stop defensively. It came easy against the Gators and Wildcats, but other than that, nothing has come easy this year against quality opponents.

They’ve fought through adversity time and time again. They’ve come from behind. They’ve dominated in the second half. They make big stops and conversions when it matters most.

Beating an Auburn team that’s currently 5-4 by a 27-20 score, even on the road, isn’t pretty. That’s a lunch-pail game. They took some punches early, pulled it together, made adjustments, and threw some 4th quarter punches of their own to secure the win. It wasn’t pretty, but that was a tough, hard-earned SEC road win.

Beating a current 3-6 South Carolina team 24-14 earlier this season wasn’t pretty either. Georgia didn’t bring their “A” game to start and fell behind early. But they regrouped, realized it was just South Carolina, and shoved them to the ground in the 2nd half. That was an ugly, but necessary win.

This team knows how to win. That’s what we’ve learned. It may not look as great, and it may not come as easy, but when it’s time to make a play, whether it’s a throw, a tackle, or a kick, this team has made it happen.

It’s in their DNA. This team is completely separate from every other Georgia football team individually, but that winning DNA runs through the program. It’s in the building. It’s in Kirby Smart.

This program knows how to get the job done. They go to work every day and focus on the details. It may not look pretty, but they’ve got the job done nine times this season.

For Georgia, it’s all about winning one game at a time. You hear about it all through the season, but now is where it really matters. It doesn’t matter how you win games. It doesn’t have to be pretty. With three regular season games left, vs. Ole Miss, at Tennessee, and at Tech, this is a “win at all cost” mindset going forward.

One play at a time. One game at a time. Whether it’s by 20 points or one point, it doesn’t matter.

Everything is there for Georgia to continue making college football history. If they keep doing their job, they’ll have a great shot at doing it.
