ATHENS - Just as UGA Football was starting to get healthier, superstar tight end Brock Bowers suffered an ankle injury against Vanderbilt on Saturday.

On Monday, UGA released a statement that Bowers would undergo surgery to repair his ankle. This is a similar surgery to the one Amarius Mims and Lawson Luckie each had on their ankles this season.

The estimated timetable for this type of injury typically ranges around 4-6 weeks.

On Tuesday, Kirby Smart commented on Bowers and several other players that have been dealing with injuries.

Brock Bowers

Smart was not clear on when the team expects Bowers to return to action. In fact, he pretty much refused to answer that question. He was consistent in saying that what is most important is getting him healthy, so he can contribute at a safe level.

Smart stood confident in his comments on Bowers.

“Brock Bowers is great. Brock Bowers is rock solid,” Smart said. “He’s a warrior, so he’ll handle it the right way.”

Ladd McConkey

”Ladd, he did well today. He practiced today and probably did more today than what he’s done on the Tuesdays in the past, but he also had Monday and Sunday off. I feel good about where he’s at, but also he’s day-to-day.”

Amarius Mims

”Mims is working his way back. He’s running and moving around. I thought he looked much better yesterday when he did some stretch and stride stuff. He’s been out there at practice but hasn’t taken any reps. When he’s cleared and can play winning football he’ll be back out there.”

Smael Mondon

“Smael's been a good leader. Smael is closer to 100-percent. I think he played early in the camp on an injury that a lot of people take a long time to come back from, and I think he made it back in four months and was able to go play early in the season. The early season was like his camp. He didn't get a camp to go through, and he is back up to speed and doing a good job. I think he's really wanting to have a good back half of the season and play more physical and play faster. I count on him to do that."

Xavier Truss

”He didn’t practice today. His deltoid was hurt but it wasn’t tight-rope or anything like that. We think he should be fine. and good to go. I don’t know if he’ll be good to go by Thursday but he should be good by Monday.

Kendall Milton

”Kendall did some stuff today. He was able to go out and practice. I feel good about Kendall. It wasn’t a high rep day for him.”

Lawson Luckie

”Lawson’s done a fabulous job rehabbing from his ankle injury. He’s a really tough kid. He’s not afraid of work. I still don’t think Lawson is 100% healthy but he’s been cleared to play since Auburn. He just hasn’t been quite ready to play.
