ATHENS - The injury headline for UGA football last week was that there has not been a longer list of injuries at Georgia since Kirby Smart took over as head coach.

Has this affected the Bulldogs? It is hard to argue that it hasn’t, but the team has been embodying a “next man up” mentality.

Georgia has not been at full strength from the jump, and it is not clear as to when or if that will happen this season. Despite this, Georgia has secured a 4-0 record in the first month of the season and a conference win over South Carolina

Has this affected the Bulldogs? It is hard to argue that it hasn’t, but the team has been embodying a “next man up” mentality.

“I’m not gonna sit here and cry about it,” said Smart.

Some notable players that were out this past Saturday were Ladd McConkey, Mykel Williams, Javon Bullard, Kendall Milton and Amarius Mims. These are significant starters that the Bulldogs are missing.

Smart updated the status of some of the injured Bulldogs on Monday, so where are the players at in recovery?

Ladd McConkey

McConkey has not dressed out the entire season with a back injury, and his return timeline has been very unclear.

A lot of the verbiage has revolved around McConkey being a “day-to-day” case, but Smart hopes to have him back in practice this week after shutting him down for the last two weeks of practice.

This is what Smart said about McConkey on Monday:

“He's gotta be able to practice, you know. And that's a big part of it. He's going to be able to come back to practice this week, and we're going to be able to do some more things with him. How he does in those things will determine whether or not he's able to play. We had kind of a two-week advised shutdown. He's done that, and we're expecting him to be able to go out there today and do some things, but non contact early in the week and try to move to that.”

Mykel Williams

Williams was more of a surprise when he wasn’t out there against Ball State. Smart said after the game that it was due to an illness, and he is “hopeful” to return this week.

“Mykel (Williams) we're hopeful to get back if he's over the sickness,” said Smart.

Williams has two sacks on the year and was coming off of his best outing against South Carolina.

Javon Bullard

Bullard missed his second game in-a-row on Saturday after suffering an ankle injury against Ball State. He dressed out and did not play against South Carolina. This past Saturday, he was not dressed out.

“We think he's going to be able to do more, hoping to get him back. We'll know more, if he gets more done today and tomorrow, if he's able to practice any, we'll obviously know more,” Smart said.

David Daniel-Sisavahn and Dan Jackson have gotten increased time in Bullard’s absence.

“I don't feel any communication issues as a result of Javon because Dan is really bright. David Daniel is really bright. They know our system. They've been in it. So I don't foresee any communication issues there with Bullard being out,” Smart said.
