ATHENS - UGA Football will sit atop both major polls to start the 2023 season. The Associated Press poll, made up of voters in the media, placed Kirby Smart’s Dawgs No. 1 on Monday.
A week ago Georgia was ranked No. 1 in the coaches’ poll. UGA has not started a season ranked No. 1 since 2008, which was Matthew Stafford’s final season at Georgia. Georgia is coming off back-to-back national titles. Eight months after routing TCU by a record breaking 65-7 score in the College Football Playoff National Championship, the Dawgs are gearing up for another run at the national titlde.
But some things have to be settled still.
Insiders told Dawg Post that the Dawgs’ scrimmage on Saturday was won by the defense, and that the offensive line wasn’t what they expected. Kirby and his staff have yet to name a starting quarterback, too.

According to FanDuel , Georgia has the best odds to win the national championship this season at +220, and it is not super close. Alabama is the second closest at just +600 odds, followed by Ohio State with +700 odds. The Dawgs are listed at -142 to go undefeated in the regular season - giving them roughly a 60% chance to end the regular season without a loss.
Georgia was also picked by the media at the 2023 SEC Football Media Days to join the conference, something that had not happened in over a decade.
Kirby told reporters Saturday that what happned a season ago has nothing to do with this year.
“So many people make an assumption off of last year’s team and their accomplishments,” he said “I asked this team, after the scrimmage and after we ran, what have you done to deserve anything you have gotten? They have done nothing.”
