How Will Mike Bobo and UGA Football Use WR Transfer Dominic Lovett?
ATHENS - As UGA football fans continue to count down the days to the start of fall camp and the 2023 season, there are a few new faces that will wear the red and black.
One of the most heralded transfers after the 2022 season, Dominic Lovett officially committed to Georgia on December 22, 2022. He enrolled in time to participate in the spring practice session and showed immediately why his abilities bring great potential for the Dawg offense.

Lovett is a 5’10, 180-pound junior from East St. Louis, Illinois. Having played and starred for the 2019 Illinois state champions, Lovett committed to Missouri as a four-star recruit and played sparingly until a breakout season in 2022. Lovett snagged 56 passes for 846 yards and 3 touchdowns as a sophomore, ending the season as the Southeastern Conference’s 4th leading receiver in total yards. His 70.5 yards per game were 5th in the SEC, noteworthy as Missouri had the 11th best offense in the conference in 2022. Lovett averaged a third of Missouri’s per game passing yards as well.
Lovett has +6000 odds to win the Fred Biletnikoff award after the 2023 regular season according to FanDuel.

So, what does Lovett bring to Georgia? Other than experience and proven playmaking skills, he brings acceleration and burst. Although his size screams “slot” receiver, Lovett lined up at all three receiver positions for Missouri in 2022, using his speed and quickness to find openings at each level of the defense. He plays faster than his timed speed and consistently embarrassed opposing defensive backs last season with his quickness and understanding of the route tree.
How Mike Bobo uses Lovett will be fun to watch. When combined with speed merchant Arian Smith, Lovett gives presumed starter Carson Beck multiple field-extending targets that defenses will have to contend with. When you add Brock Bowers and Ladd McConkey to the mix, this offense could become a defensive coordinator’s nightmare. Unless your defense boasts multiple shut-down corners, Lovett will add a level of receiving competence that will consistently create openings for the Georgia offense to exploit.
Lovett was the 9th ranked transfer prospect in the 2022 portal. It’s safe to say Kirby Smart identified a need for more downfield opportunities and depth coming into 2023. Combined with the loss of AD Mitchell, Lovett’s arrival shows the Georgia program never stops working to get better.
