ATHENS - Former UGA football All-American David Pollack confirmed Friday night that he had been laid off by Disney - saying that he was thankful ESPN had taken a chance on him more than a decade ago.

Pollack was a three-time All-American at Georgia from 2002-2004. He was a part of Mark Richt’s first four teams at UGA - a group that turned the program around significantly by winning the SEC for the first since in 20 years in 2022.

After a brilliant college career at Georgia, Pollack was selected by the Cincinnati Bengals with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Bengals are one of the top teams in the NFL right now, and according to to FanDuel, the Bengals have +1000 odds to win the Super Bowl next season.

“A lot of y’all heard that I won’t be brought back to College Gameday next year or to ESPN,” Pollack said on social media. “I just wanted to say thank you to so many people. I appreciate everyone along the journey. 12, 13 years ESPN took a chance on me.”

Pollack climbed the ladder at ESPN - going from calling games as an analyst to being an important part of ESPN’s College Gameday. On Friday Disney, ESPN’s parent company, slashed a slew of on-air talent including Pollack.

“I don’t know what is next, but one thing God has shown me is that he’s for me - not against me,” Pollack said.

Pollack’s explosion on college football’s national scene came during a 13-7 win over South Carolina in 2002. The Shiloh product scored a touchdown against the Gamecocks after he stripped Corey Jenkins and fell to the ground with either a fumble recovery for a touchdown - or a pick six.

“Before that play I checked my e-mail, and I didn’t have any,” Pollack told ESPN of that play. “When I came back from that South Carolina game I had thousands of e-mails from fans. I was a career-changing thing for me. I could never (do that) again.”
