ATHENS - Kirby Smart and UGA Football are the No. 3 program of this decade, ESPN suggested over the weekend.

The Bulldogs have won two of the decade’s three national titles. The season the Dawgs didn’t win it all they finished No. 8 in the nation. In a decade that spans only three years so far, how does a team win two national championships and yet not be considered one of the top two programs? T

his is the argument raised by fans and critics alike, as ESPN's Bill Conley places Georgia at number three in his ranking of the top programs of the 2020s. The controversy surrounding this decision highlights the subjective nature of such lists and the weight given to different factors.

Conley's ranking, based on SP+ analytics, suggests a concentration of power at the top of college football, with dominant schools ruling the sport. While Georgia is recognized as one of the few teams to have consistently performed well throughout the decades, winning multiple championships, it is pretty simple to see that they should be the clear program of the 2020s already.

With two national championships to their name, Georgia's success cannot be denied.

It is hard not to question the methodology behind these rankings. Georgia should be higher, given their impressive track record in recent years. What about Iowa placed at No. 8? A program that is 24-11, without a top-ten finish this decade and no major post-season wins is the eighth best program this decade?

That doesn’t make sense in any way.

It is important to note that rankings are subjective and often subject to interpretation. Different factors can be weighed differently by different individuals, leading to varying conclusions. While analytics provide valuable insights, they should not be the sole determinant of a team's success or program of the decade.

As the college football world eagerly awaits the rest of the 2020s, there is still much uncertainty. Will Georgia continue its dominant run and add more national championships to its tally? Or will other teams rise and disrupt the landscape? Only time will tell.

In the end, rankings and debates about the program of the decade serve as fodder for passionate discussions among college football fans. We are in the summer, y’all. While some may agree with Conley's rankings, others vehemently disagree. Regardless, the excitement and passion surrounding college football remain unwavering, and the debate over the program of the decade will likely continue until the final whistle of the 2020s.
