ATHENS - Kirby Smart and UGA Football will play at the Texas Longhorns, according to a report.
The Southeastern Conference is set to announce the league’s 2024 schedule at 7 PM EST Wednesday night, but Chip Brown from Horns 247 is reporting that the Dawgs will travel to Austin for a conference showdown.

The Bulldogs are expected to play Florida, Auburn and Texas A&M as well in 2024, but the A&M game is the least likely of those three. The rest of the schedule is unclear. The SEC will no longer be split into divisions, meaning the Bulldogs’ annual matchups with South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri are likely on the chopping block in some form.
Brown reports that Texas “will face historic rivals Texas A&M and Arkansas on the road in addition to UT's annual Red River Showdown with Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl and will play a home game against current, two-time defending national champion Georgia, sources close to the situation told Horns247 Tuesday night.”
It would make sense for the Dawgs to play Texas in the first season of the Horns’ season in the SEC. As reported a week ago on Dawg Post, it was likely that Disney would want to match the Bulldogs and Horns together due to the massive audience the two schools had for the Sugar Bowl a few seasons ago.
That game pulled in 13.2 million viewers when the two teams collided in the Sugar Bowl. It is one of the most-watched non-playoff or national title games in Sugar Bowl history.
Georgia will open 2024 against Clemson in Atlanta. The Bulldogs will close the season in Athens against Georgia Tech. It is expected that the Dawgs will also play Tennessee Tech and UMass in 2024 as those games have contracts. It is possible, but unlikely, the SEC could want to buy those games out in order to move the schedule around.
