ATHENS - It may not be late October, but Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have once again defeated the Florida Gators.

This time it’s on the recruiting trail as they flip one of Florida’s top commitments in four-star running back, Chauncey Bowens‍.

A big back with speed at 5-foot-11 215-pounds, Bowens plays at The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach and is ranked as the No. 2 running back prospect in Florida.

Bowens had been committed to Florida since September 18th, but during his official visit to Georgia this weekend, the four-star decided to flip to the Gator’s biggest rival, the two-time defending nation champion Georgia Bulldogs.

Bulldog assistant Dell McGee already has one running back on the commit list in four-star Dwight Phillips, JR‍, who happens to be one of the fastest prospects in the country. Now they have Bowens on board who will give Georgia another tough, tackle-breaking back.

Running backs coach Dell McGee has turned multiple backs into NFL Draft picks over the last several years, with the latest bring Kenny McIntosh who was selected by the Seattle Seahawks in the 7th round of last Aprils’ 2023 Draft. With McIntosh carrying the ball, the Seahawks have +3,500 odds to win the Super Bowl next year according to FanDuel.

What will Bowens bring to Athens?

Speed and power.

IF you turn on the film, it’s easy to see Bowens’ big play ability. He’s physically gifted with plenty of muscle in his 220-pound frame, but he runs really well for his size as he’s run a 10.88 time in the 100 meter as a junior this year.

He hits the hole hard and shows breakaway speed at times. He runs with power, balance, and doesn’t go down easily. It often takes two defenders to finally get Bowens to the ground. A good athlete who can catch out of the backfield, Bowens can jump, and knows how to break tackles down the field. He’s a true weapon in the open field and is always looking to score when he has the ball in his hands.

He didn’t exactly light up the stat sheet last year as a junior, but ran for a respectable 940 yards on 130 carries for an average of 7.2 yards per carry and 8 touchdowns. If his numbers were a little better, his ranking would be a little higher. Still, the talent is easy to see, and there’s a reason why Dell McGee and the Bulldogs pushed hard for a flip. The state of Florida produces high-caliber running backs every year, and Bowens is without a doubt one of the very best in Florida for the 2024 class. There’s a lot to like about his game, so Georgia fans should be very happy about this pickup.

Bowens is ranked in the On3 Industry Rankings as the No. 16 RB prospect, the No. 33 prospect in Florida, and the No. 214 overall prospect in the country.
