ATHENS - NFL Network analyst and former Jacksonville Jags RB Maurice Jones-Drew had a curious take on Kirby Smart’s Georgia Bulldogs producing ten NFL Draft picks over the weekend.
“The only problem with that is they are not playing in the SEC anymore,” Maurice Jones-Drew told the table during the NFL Network’s draft coverage. “All of them Georgia guys are going to have to show up every Sunday. We don't get to play Vanderbilt. Let's be honest.”

Jones-Drew spend his college days playing at UCLA where the Bruins went a combined 22-15 in the Pac 10 against the likes of USC, Oregon and Cal. Jones-Drew had more than 3,000 yards from scrimmage during his UCLA career. He went on to a successful NFL career with over 8,000 yards rushing in nine seasons in the league.
Georgia has sent an NFL Draft record 25 players to the league in the last two years. They produced three 1st-round picks in last weeks’ 2023 NFL Draft, with two players, Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, heading to Philadelphia to play for the Eagles. According to FanDuel, the Eagles have outstanding +105 odds to once again win the NFC East next season.
The Bulldogs have won the last two College Football Playoff National Championship Games and defeated Vanderbilt 62-0 in 2021 and 55-0 in 2022.
In that time the Bulldogs have also defeated No. 3 Clemson (10-3), No. 8 Arkansas (37-0), No. 18 Auburn (34-10), No. 11 Kentucky (30-13), No. 2 Michigan (34-11), No. 1 Alabama (33-18), No. 11 Oregon (49-3), No. 2 Tennessee (27-13), No. 14 LSU (50-30), No. 4 Ohio State (42-41) and No. 3 TCU (65-7).
The SEC had more players taken in the 2023 NFL Draft than any conference (62). The Big Ten was next with 55. The ACC (32) and Big 12 (30) had about half of the SEC’s draftees. Meanwhile the Pac 12 had the fewest draftees of any Power 5 league in college football at 27.
The Bulldogs and Bruins are set to meet in 2025 and 2026.
