Series History With Florida
Despite Georgia’s 63-43 advantage in games played in Athens, Florida possesses a 121-105 overall edge in the all-time series between the Bulldogs and the Gators.
Earlier this season on Jan. 7 in Gainesville,Terry Roberts’ 25-point outburst led Georgia in an 82-75 setback at ExacTech Arena.
Jabri Abdur-Rahim and Braelen Bridges added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs.
Georgia built an early double-digit lead that maxed out at 23-10 at the 10:32 mark of the first half before the Gators responded with a 21-4 surge to end period with a 39-34 lead.
Florida built its own 13-point advantage at 61-48 before Georgia rallied. The Bulldogs cut the gap to three on four occasions but could not complete the comeback. The Gators led 78-75 with 23 seconds remaining. Following a Georgia miss, Kyle Lofton hit both ends of a one-and-one to ice the victory for Florida.
Georgia and Florida last met in Stegeman Coliseum on Feb. 26 last season. Kario Oquendo scored 20 points; however, the Gators still defeated the Bulldogs, 84-72.
Braelen Bridges also contributed 16 points for Georgia.
A back-and-forth first half featured eight lead changes before the Gators inched out to a 41-34 edge at the intermission. Florida then opened the second stanza with a 10-0 surge to seize control of the contest.
Scouting The Gators
Florida arrives in Athens at 14-15 overall and 7-9 in SEC play. The Gators were 5-3 in the league before dropping six of their last seven outings.
Florida is adjusting to the loss of Colin Castleton, the Gator’s leading scorer (16.0 ppg), rebounder (7.7 rpg) and shot blocker (3.0 bpg). He suffered a season-ending hand injury in Florida’s Feb. 15 victory over Ole Miss.
Four Gators are averaging between 8.9-10.0 points per game. Will Richard leads that quartet at 10.0 ppg, followed by Kyle Lofton and Riley Kugel both at 9.0 ppg and Kowacie Reeves at 8.9 pgg. Kugel is averaging 20.3 ppg over Florida’s last three games since Castleton’s injury.

Georgia led 41-40 at the break before the Tigers scored 45 second-half points.
Kario Oquendo led the Bulldogs with 13 points, while Braelen Bridges notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards. Madrez McBride also scored 12 points, all coming on 3-pointers.

Trailing the Gators and rounding out Georgia’s top-5 frequency foes are: Georgia Tech (198), Auburn (197), Tennessee (160) and Kentucky (159).
White Faces Former Team
First-year Georgia head coach Mike White spent the previous seven seasons as the head coach at Florida.
White posted a 142-88 record at Florida from 2015-22. He reached 100 victories with the Gators in 158 games, the second-fastest pace ever by a Florida basketball coach behind only Billy Donovan (154 games).
Under White, the Gators were the only SEC program to earn a bid to the four NCAA Tournaments contested between 2017-21. In addition, Florida was a consensus pick among bracketologists to earn at bid to “March Madness” in 2020 before it was canceled.
More impressively, the Gators were one of only six programs in the nation to record a victory in each of the NCAA Tournaments between 2017-21.
If You Can’t Beat him, Hire Him
Mike White compiled a 12-3 record against Georgia in his previous stints at Louisiana Tech and Florida.
White led La. Tech to 79-71 victory over the Bulldogs in the 2014 NIT. He then compiled an 11-3 mark in seven seasons with the Gators from 2015-22.
Klatsky Brothers Face Off
Georgia’s Brandon Klatsky and Florida’s Alex Klatsky are brothers.
Brandon is in his freshman season with the Bulldogs and is yet to see action in a regular-season contest.
Alex is a redshirt junior with the Gators and has logged playing time in 16 contests during his career. He scored his first points for Florida with a 3-pointer in the regular-season opener against Stony Brook.
The Klatskys played together for one season at the Ranney School, helping the Panthers to a 31-3 finish and the 2019 New Jersey Non-Public B state championship and the NJSIAA Tournament of Champions title.

White Is Stellar At Stegeman
Although Stegeman Coliseum opened in February 1964, about 13 before Mike White was born, some might say the arena was built for him.
White was 7-1 in Stegeman before he became the Bulldogs’ head coach. He led Louisiana Tech to an NIT victory over Georgia at Stegeman in 2014 and then was 6-1 against the Bulldogs in seven seasons at Florida from 2015-22.
Quick math adding in a 13-3 mark this season reveals White’s 20-4 record in the venue. We used a calculator to determine White’s success rate at Stegeman – a spectacular 83.3 percent.
Dogs Start Hot At Home
Georgia won its first 10 games at Stegeman Coliseum, making this just the sixth bunch of Bulldogs ever to post a double-figure home winning streak.
In fact, this season’s streak tied the Georgia’s sixth-longest overall home winning streak, fifth-best stretch in a single season and fourth-longest span at Stegeman Coliseum as outlined below
The Bulldogs’ longest stretch of home success was in 1930-31 when Bulldogs produced one of two perfect home records in program history and went 16-0.
Georgia’s longest overall home winning streak is 25 games – final three games of the 1929-30 season, the 16-0 mark in 1930-31 and the first six dates in Athens of the 1931-23 campaign.

Dogs Notch Historical “W”
This season produced one of Georgia’s most fruitful pre-New Year efforts ever.
The Bulldogs wrapped up their pre-SEC slate at 10-3 following a Dec. 28 victory over Rider – just the fourth time in program history the Bulldogs compiled a double-digit win total prior January.
The previous Georgia squads to obtain that standard were in 1996-97, 2001-02 and 2010-11.
The Dogs’ Dozen Starting 5s
Georgia has mixed and matched 11 Bulldogs to comprise 12 different starting lineups this season.
Most of those were in non-conference play when Georgia used eight different quintets over the first 11 contests. The Bulldogs battled through a series of injuries and illnesses that resulted in 16 DNPs being registered by six players. In fact, the Notre Dame game – Georgia’s 11th outing – was the first when the entire roster was available.
After settling into a consistent quintet for nine games – from Notre Dame on Dec. 18 to Vanderbilt on Jan. 21 – the Bulldogs have used four more sets of starters over their last 10 contests.
No Bulldog has started every game and only four Bulldogs – Jabri Abdur-Rahim, Braelen Bridges, Justin Hill and Mardrez McBride – have played in every contest this season.
The 70-Point Mark Is Key
The best indicator for Georgia’s success this season has been a defensive standard.
The Bulldogs are a perfect 14-0 this season when their opponents score 70 points or less. That ledger includes five of Georgia’s six SEC victories.
Bulldogs Honor Nine Seniors
Nine members of the Georgia Basketball program – five players and four managers – were honored prior to tipoff of the Missouri game on Feb. 25.
The group of players includes a diverse amount of experience.
Jaxon Etter is the Bulldogs’ first four-year letterwinner since Tyree Crump and Jordan Harris wrapped up their careers in 2020. Both Braelen Bridges and Jailyn Ingram are in their second seasons with the Bulldogs. Mardrez McBride and Terry Roberts arrived in Athens last summer.
Georgia’s student managers wrapping up their careers with program this season are Philip Adams, Othmane Elyaalaoui, Michael Hyams and Zach Long.
A Very Productive Bench
The Bulldogs who have come off the bench this season have scored 675 points, 33.7 percent of the 2,004 points put up by Georgia.
The Bulldogs’ bench has outscored its opponents’ reserves 675-546, a pretty substantial +129 margin. Georgia has won the “bench battle” in 20 of the Bulldogs’ 29 games and tied Auburn (in Athens) in another.
According to KenPom.com, Georgia ranks No. 2 nationally in bench minutes, with reserves accounting for 45.0 percent of the Bulldogs’ total PT.
Hill Hot Of Late
Justin Hill has upped his offensive contributions considerably over Georgia’s last seven outings. He is the Bulldogs’ leading scorer during that span at 14.2 ppg.
The junior from Houston scored in double figures in six of the Bulldogs’ last seven contests and had nine points in the other outing. That came after hitting double digits so just five times in the first 22 games.
Hill’s improvements aren’t limited to the scoring column. He has upped his shooting percentages, assists and assist-to-turnover ratios as well as outlined below.

In addition to the aforementioned trio, four more Bulldogs have converted on more than 10 3-pointers this season – Kario Oquendo has 34, Terry Roberts has 33, Justin Hill has 21 and Jusaun Holt has 13.
The tally of seven Bulldogs with double-digit 3-pointers is Georgia’s most in a quarter century – since eight Dogs did so during the 1997-98 season.
Thankful We’re Less Giving
The Bulldogs’ ball security numbers have taken a distinct turn for the better since Turkey Day.
Georgia recorded more turnovers than assists in each of the first six games prior to Thanksgiving, to the combined tune of 62 assists to 99 TOs. That equated to a paltry 0.63 assist-to-TO ratio.
The Bulldogs have produced positive or equal ratios in 15 of 23 contests since – including a season-best 13-to-7 effort against Kentucky in Athens – and have upped their Ast.-to-TO mark to 0.89. While that still ranks 13th in the SEC, the Bulldogs’ improvement taking care of the basketball since Thanksgiving has been the best in the league.
Since Turkey Day, 10 of the SEC’s teams have produced a better assist-to-TO ratio than in their games prior to the holiday, but the Bulldogs own by far the most positive up-tick among those teams as outlined below.
Although “Thanksgiving” seems like a random line to draw, every SEC team had played either five or six games as of Nov. 24 so it seemed like a solid reference point.

In A Matter of Days...
The Bulldogs’ Feb. 11 win over Kentucky – coupled with the Bulldogs’ 63-62 victory over the Wildcats at Stegeman on Jan. 20, 2021 – provided Georgia with its first back-to-back home Ws in the series in 33 seasons.
The most recent occurrence prior to those was when the Bulldogs bettered the Wildcats 84-72 on Feb. 5, 1989 and 106-91 on Jan. 3, 1990 in the opener of their march to an SEC Championship.
There were 12,092 days between the 1990 contest and this year’s game.
That added to a couple of other significant milestones for the Bulldogs during Mike White’s first season.
Georgia used a 62-58 win at Ole Miss to notch a couple of firsts in a while.
The victory was the Bulldogs’ first on the road since topping Auburn on Feb. 2, 2021, a span of 711 days.
Georgia also improved to 3-1 in the SEC with the win over the Rebels, the best four-game start in league play for the Bulldogs since the 2016-17 campaign. That gap measured 2,204 days.
Bulldogs Sign Top-25 class
In November, Georgia inked a top-25 recruiting class comprised of a pair ESPN’s top-100 prospects in the Class of 2023 – No. 72 Lamariyon “Mari” Jordan and No. 94 Dylan James.
James helped lead Winter Haven High to the semifinals of the 2022 Florida Class 6A state tournament. He was selected as the Lakeland Ledger’s Player of the Year after averaging 15.2 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.4 blocks, 2.0 apg and 1.3 spg per game last season for the Blue Devils, who finished 23-8.
Jordan was tabbed first-team All-State for Class 6A as a junior after averaging 19.7 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.4 bpg and 1.2 spg per game for Dacula High. Over three seasons, Jordan compiled 1,257 points, 434 rebounds, 128 blocks, 109 assists and 104 steals for the Falcons.
