ATHENS - Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs finally get to catch their break on the recruiting trail since it’s the February Dead Period, but there are still plenty of new targets to keep an eye on.

Here are a few new Bulldog targets to know about moving forward...

Jamonta Waller - EDGE - Picayune Memorial (MS)

One of the fastest-rising prospects in Mississippi, Waller was an incredibly talented defender and one of the more productive EDGE defenders in Mississippi last season as a junior, taking 106 tackles, 24 TFLs, and 11.5 sacks. He also added one INT and forced one fumble. He’s added quite a few major offers since the start of the month, adding offers from Georgia, Texas A&M, Alabama, among others.

“I was just so excited to earn that Georgia offer”, Waller told Dawg Post. “What I know about Georgia is that they are running college football and are back-to-back champs. They expect the best out of you. I mean, you have to be a dawg too hear from them. It’s Georgia!”

Waller plans to take an unofficial visit to Georgia at some point in March.

Amir Jackson - ATH - Portal

There’s a new in-state target to know about in the 2024 class, and it’s a big two-way athlete who can make plays as a major pass-catcher or a bigger safety who can roam the middle of the field and make a play on the ball. The 6-foot-5 220-pounder from Southeast Georgia is a big-play machine with plenty of size and the ability to snag the ball out of the air. He has a long, athletic frame and can out-jump smaller defenders in jump-ball situations. As a defender, he roams the middle of the field like a lion just waiting to strike. He comes downhill in a hurry and knows how to deliver a hit and drive the ball-carrier backwards. If he continues to add more weight and muscle, there’s a chance he could get a hard look at tight end as well at the next level.

Jackson now holds offers from Georgia, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Florida, Kentucky, among others.

Jaylen Mbakwe - DB - Clay-Chalkville (AL)

Fran Brown is off to a tremendous start already in the 2024 class with three defensive backs already on the commit list, but he’s still looking to add elite players to his secondary. Georgia’s DBs coach re-offered one of the top defensive backs in the country recently in 5-star Jaylen Mbakwe, an Alabama native currently committed to Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide. As a receiver last season, Mbakwe caught 16 passes for 393 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, the athletic 5-foot-11 175-pounder covers a lot of ground in the back end and knows how to make a play on the ball in the area. He’s one of the top overall prospects in the country, but it won’t be easy to snag him away from the Crimson Tide.
